I figured. I could tell from the get go he was uninterested. He couldn't get off the phone fast enough. I could also tell that he wasn't even aware that you could deactivate plates online.

    Your tax dollars at work...

Edit: like you, I also keep old plates and hang them in my garage. I do it because I've lived in several states thanks to the military, and I think its kind of cool to track where I've been throughout my career (only missing a Y plate from Oki). Maybe I should just turn them all in to avoid the hassle you are experiencing, lol. I'm sure there are pictures floating around of my plates online, because like you, I always thought it was silly to cover them up. I appreciate the heads up!

Your plates are visible to everyone anytime your vehicle is not parked inside a garage.
I'm really not understanding the added concern here...
I can go to the VA DMV website and create an image of nearly any plate design and any plate number/letter combo. I can go to a novelty plate site and do the same.

Fake plates are an actual problem, but covering them up isn't going to mitigate the risk.

A couple of weeks ago, this clown was speeding on the Dulles toll road in a Ferrari with fake plates.

It's not going to eliminate the problem for sure. In my case I guess the person knew the vehicle would sell soon and maybe I would forget to deactivate the plates. Or possibly he saw a valid plate number and just took it. I have no clue what the thought process was. Either way, not covering the plate in the picture has caused me a big hassle. Why provide someone with the opportunity? Who knows what this idiot will do next with those fake plates? Personally, I've spent enough time in court trying to explain myself over the last few years. I'd rather not have to do it again.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
In a tax and spend state, you can't collect what you dismiss. So why bother?

I think that's why I started saving mine. I probably had dreams of hanging them all somewhere, but it's never happened. I only have three states represented, but I have some funny vanity plates. I also have all the temp tags I've gotten. I was even writing what vehicle they came off of on the back. Maybe I should just walk into the DMV with a plastic tote full of plates to hand them in! :D

They'll make you take a number and wait. And explain in detail why you have them and what happened to the cars. In triplicate with visual aides.

Wouldn't surprise me. It's also how I see a court case going.

We had a crazy storm roll through yesterday afternoon out here in western Loudoun. 1.75" of rain in 45 mins. Downed trees everywhere. There's still a lot of small pockets of power outages.

Wondering if it was a microburst storm. Didn't feel like a typical summer storm.

    Lost a locust tree.

Cleanup will have to wait til we get cooler temps later this week.

I think I drove under that on the way home yesterday. I saw a large narrow column of rain out near Berryville. Radar showed it moving (slowly) that way. A couple of drops on the window was all I got. Nothing at home.

It hit here (abt 20 miles east of berryville) around 415.

I didn't really see it coming. Just a bit of drizzle, and then it got real.

That's the one I saw. I got home just before 4, so that sounds right.

I would love to have had that here. Berryville is under drought restrictions right now (they have there own system) and I think we're getting close again. Trying to get the outdoor maintenance done that requires a water supply before that hits again.

This was the first meaningful rain we've had in five weeks. I wish it had fallen over a longer period, but I still appreciate evey drop.

I've got about 70 new trees in the ground from last fall and this spring. It's been a bear of a task keep them moist. Developed a drip bucket setup that I can deploy en masse around the property that's only consuming 4 gallons per tree per week. Nothing is showing any stress. Other than me hauling buckets. Lol

I was working during that, I heard the rain and thunder but didn't realize it got that bad. Like 30 minutes later and I wouldn't have even known it rained if I hadn't heard it.

You can see the path from the Dominion outage map right after it hit.

A mile or two north of Rte 7, from the ridge eastward to leesburg.

There is a way you can automate that for not a lot of money with a some hose and soaker rings. Set in on a timer that connects to your hose bib and no more bucket carrying.

Some of the locations I'm dealing with aren't feasible for hoses. Simply too far.
I do drag a couple hundred feet of hose off the hydrant out to some of the closer sections.

It's good exercise. At least that's the spin I'm putting on it.
