DC aint as bad as every one says it is. It can be a fun sometimes.
As far as living locations...single/married/kids , work hours, and interest are all gonna play a big factor. Average commute in this area is probaly an hour. There is a metro kinda near JBAB but its a good hump to the base through some sketchy areas.
I believe there is DOD shuttle service from Mark Center and/or The Pentagon if you're eligible. There also might be other shuttle services available at the bigger metro stops.
Traffic is a bitch, shit is expensive and most people are assholes, but you get used to it.
Your trails are gonna be west of here .
We get four seasons and geographically this is an awsome part of the country with a little something for everyone being close by.

I think there is a Metro bus that goes to JBAB from the Metro stop. If there is in fact a DoD shuttle from the Pentagon (not sure), then I can recommend living out west! I live in Warrenton and ride a bus to the Pentagon from the University lot (Gainesville). The bus fare is covered by the government. Takes me a little under an hour and a half but I don't sit in traffic, I save miles on my Taco, and it is actually nice and quiet out here.

Yeah ,now that I'm older I like living further out . In my younger days I enjoyed living on Ft Myer and in Arlington and having quick access to all the fun shit to do in the District.

I'm a Midwest guy. If it wasn't for too much snow, I'd go back. I commute Rt 7 and there a lot of days I'd rather be on the "Drive it like you stole it" (I94) in Detroit.

That being said, middle of nowhere Tennessee, here we come!

Yeah my parents are between Asheville and Greenville, they finally got power again this weekend. The roads to their mountain are still rough but passable it seems.

I was *this close* to loading up my tacoma and driving down there to help get them out but they said no.

Just heard from my brother in Orlando. Safe, has power, hasn't been outside yet. Waiting for the sun to come up.

Well, I think it's official. I just got an invite to the "Retirement Briefing" Teams meeting to discuss the "retirement and out processing" process.

    :fingerscrossed:

Something I thought I wouldn't have a realistic chance to do is becoming a reality. In large part to my wife. When she was the primary bread winner, she saved and maxed out her benefits because my prospects for contributions weren't promising with the work I was doing. Now I've secured our benefits for retirement, and I'm beginning to realize it may actually happen. :)

Just some input to help. As others have said, it depends on your own situation. If you are a contractor and by yourself, I have a friend Army guy who is also a contractor who lives in Alexandria who may consider renting a room or something. He is on here and a great guy all around (coming from a jarhead). lol
I agree about time is more valuable. There is a shuttle bus from the pentagon to many different places. https://www.whs.mil/Services-and-Information/DoD-Transportation-Services/ I commute from Stafford to the Pentagon and Mark Center (Slug. Google that up!) and it literally takes me 28 minutes for free. I use to live in Fairfax (Centreville) which is almost 50% closer and yet it would take me 45-55 min to drive in.
The good thing for you (IMHO) is that once you are established here there are a plethora of opportunities in regards to contracting jobs. Also, if you are into fishing and hunting (not as wonderful as the NW, but still something) than you are in a good spot. Get a kayak and I'll take you Snakehead fishing! The beaches are what?!?! an 1.5-2 hours? Mountains are just over 1 hr away.

Cleaning out garage. I don't need some of this stuff, so if you need it/want it let's discuss. I'm more interested in making room in my garage. Only posted here since I'm not interested in shipping or anything like that.

I’ll have to check out that link and look into how the public transpo works. It’s me, wife, and dog. So we’re looking for something with a fenced in back yard….which means about 4k in rent. Big change from my $1200 2k sq ft house here in Illinois lol. But like you said, beaches and mountains all within an hour or two makes the price worth it.

That little voice told me to drive the truck instead of the car today. Glad I listened. Driver fell asleep, bounced along the guardrail till that ended, went up the bank, took down a good sized tree and rolled. No serious injuries, got himself out.

I do follow Ohio State, but I am way more of a Guardians/Browns fan than OSU. TBH, college sports get on my nerves most of the time with all the posturing and cupcake games.

For today's game 5, good luck to you guys. Regardless of who wins it was a great ALDS, and I am definitely worried about facing your ace today. Hope we win but if this is the end of the Guardians' run, I can't be anything but happy about getting to see them have a hell of a season after being initially picked to finish in the bottom of the ALC.

Edited to add...don't get me started on the dumpster fire that is the Browns.:anonymous:

I stopped following the Tiger's in August when we're 30 and something and 10 games out. Then I see wildcard game. What happened in that dugout?!

College, I kind if agree. Fun to watch on occasion.

Browns? Dumpster fire? You're talking a long-suffering Lions fan (0-22) who FINALLY has something to be excited about. I feel your pain.

My wife told me I need to finally get rid of all the old Tacoma stuff. Hopefully some of you guys are interested since I don’t really want to ship anything. It was all installed on a third gen so assume that’s what it’ll fit. I made a list of the msrp for items and then my asking price. There are no harnesses for the Baja Designs lights since I just made my own. The Diode Dynamics fogs have the anti-flicker module. Let me know if you have any questions!

    Lock’er down safe $329 msrp - $200

    Baja 10” wide cornering $442.95 msrp - $200 (I have two available)

    Baja 10” racing edition 617.95 msrp - $300

    Baja 20” driving combo $793.95 msrp - $450

Diode Dynamics MAX fog lights $579.95 msrp - $300

Desert does it mmp $107.99 msrp - $60

Bamf Trilogy skid plates $1k plus $400 shipping - $600 (These need to be cleaned up and repainted)

Sdhq ditch light brackets $129.95 msrp - $60
