I think I'm going to need to upgrade my recovery equipment.

I have a hi-lift extreme with all the fixings for it to be a winch (I really don't want to do any handwinching, but I'll have it in case). A G80 drag chain, tree saver and 20' tow strap. Plus an axe, shovel and handsaw.

I have a big stack of them on my desk this morning, but I'm not sure how well they will work for vehicle recovery.

I do have a tow strap, but I need to finish out my recovery kit. I think I still have a long chain from my old Jeep XJ days, if I can find it.

I don’t plan on getting stuck. The hi lift is for mainly when I’m by myself and have no other resort of getting unstuck.

Have not had to use it yet and don’t plan on using it, when there’s a group of people and we can just pull out a truck with another truck.

Yeah, my old chain was not rated for jerking trucks out, lol

I’ve used them plenty of times. No issues.

Everyone seems to think a hi lift is going to save them.. good luck with that.

Also - yes you can use a hi lift as a winch. How many people have actually done it? It’s not as easy as people think. It’s a very time consuming process, but yes it works.

Chains have a place. That place is not a kinetic recovery.

I have traction boards, Hi-lift with ORK, kinetic strap, winch, 3 snatch blocks, etc, etc.o_O

    Yes!

    Woohoo!

The Hi-lift is a good tool you never want to actually use. But, it will work in a pinch. It's better than not having one.

Chains become dangerous when you jerk on them. I would prefer a strap over a chain any day.

Yeah the chain I have is for winching and I would never yank someone out with a chain, that is stupid.

I’d love a yankum rope, but those are sooooo expensive.

I've done recoveries with chains, hi-lifts, maxtrax, tow traps, winches, and kenetic straps. From stupid terrain hangups to mudholes in swamps. I'm really curious where you think a hi-lift is going to be better. I can not think of a single situation where I would want to use a hi-lift. I would place it in last place of every piece of recovery equipment I've mentioned.

I would also take a strap over a chain every single day. People also have a tendency to treat chains, tow straps, and kenetic straps as the same when they are not. I've seen windows and tail gates busted from chains.

I have the hi-lift for me when I am solo wheeling, by myself, no buddy or any other means to get out. I've never had to use it and really don't plan on ever using it. I do not have a CB, and typically when I go out there is no cell service (if there is, it's poor). Better to have one and not need it, then need one and not have it.

    I figured as much. :)

Has anyone else seen the video of what happens when some Jeep guys tried using a chain as a kinetic strap? Guy was lucky to be alive afterward, but he's probably permanently disfigured.

Still, a quality chain can be used in the right scenario.

I'm not worked up over anything? You said a hi-lift would be better and I was seriously asking for a more specific situation where it would be better. I was trying to have a conversation with you about your position because I disagreed with you. That is hardly a "lol u mad."

You might want to add emergency comms to you list of things to have and not need..

I’ve got a garmin inreach, plus various radios.
