You can mount an aftermarket suspension on a T4R with KDSS. You just can't pull the sway bars.

I heard from a few different people that if you lift it then sensors get messed up and lights come on on the dash. Or is that only if you pull the sway bars? This one handles pretty good so far

A lot of electronic stuff. And heavier duty sway bars

Heavy duty sway bars on an off-road? Interesting concept.

Cool T4R though. I vote for Kings anyway!

Yeah its kinda weird. Not sure how to explain it exactly but from what i've seen KDSS still allows for a good amount of flex, but I didn't want to have all the extra electronic stuff.

I googled it. Sounds like a really cool idea for a daily driver.

But even with extended warranty go get some Kings! They won't void the whole warranty, just anything directly changed by your mods (probably won't warranty CVs if you change the angle with a lift and wreck them, etc)

Yeah we'll see. Maybe if there is another group buy, we aren't in a huge hurry to do it.

    Brian,

We have a TE with KDSS and run ICON stage 1 kit on there. You can definitely install an aftermarket lift on there, but it's a little bit of hassle to deal with the KDSS system. There's some good reading on this subject on t4r.org that might be helpful.

Btw, we finally got your Tacoma on our website:thumbsup:

I really do want to lift it and throw some 33" ST Maxx's on there so we'll see!
Oh nice! Pictures look great Vin

It uses hydraulics I think. Basically allows for more flex at slow speeds/off road but stiffens up on road.
I think the sway bars are the same on all 4runners.

@SCSPerformance did you just have to reset KDSS after the lift? I've heard mixed things so I got an SR5

One that I knew of tried to use swaybar mount block adjusters that came with their Fox coilovers that move the bar off the chassis mount points and the system threw a fit as the accumulators were out of alignment. Put the swaybar back to stock with the new coilovers and everything was fine.

For my wife's T4R I had no plans to pull the swaybars in the first place so we ordered hers with it. And for those that still don't understand...

Ah makes sense. Oh well, I swerved it today and it handled pretty good for the smaller sway bar like the tacos have. But then again Im so used to no sway bars.

That was another reason I didn't want it. Im sure it really does help perform better but the smaller sway bar is perfectly fine.

A bunch of garbage that makes the vehicle incredibly stable on the road while maintaining the ability to articulate very well offroad.

I bought my GX specifically because it HAD KDSS. If you're not going long travel or lifting more than 3", it's an excellent feature. Especially for a daily driver since- let's not kid ourselves here- even our "trial rigs" see a shit ton more pavement than they do dirt.

I'm sure it's well worth it, in areas where salt or snow isn't an issue when it comes to reliability. Here in Cleveland, I wouldn't do it, all the rubber and steel lines, especially hydraulics like to explode.

No, we didn't have to reset anything, but it was a PITA trying to figure it out how to get that sway bar back in place.

My RS6 had a stock suspension called DRC (Dynamic Ride Control) and when it was working properly, there was nothing better, even coilovers weren't as good.
The Drivers front strut and Passengers rear shock were hydraulically linked with the same type of accumulator as KDSS.
The Passengers front strut and Drivers rear shock were the same as above.

The RS6, being so nose heavy (4.2 V8 twin turbo was forward of the front axle), would suffer from body roll during turn in.

    The DRC worked like this:
When turning right while spirited driving, inertia would push more force to the outboard side of the car, thereby raising the inboard.
The DRC would sense this force and push fluid into the outboard strut/shock, thereby making the vehicle flat and full contact with tires on road.

    Great system when it works.
Replacement was $5k for the same flawed system when it went bad.

There was only one problem: the hydraulic oil used from KYB was corrosive to one washer in each of the struts/shocks.
The result would be a massive jolt at speed to a $100k 450hp 4500lb car.

I'm not a fan of electronic off road systems like DAC, Crawl Control, KDSS, etc. Just seems like something else to go wrong and be expensive. Also the first two sound like they are killing the truck.
