I got a call you never want to hear. My mom and little sister were involved in an accident on the way to the barn maybe a mile from our house.

I guess my little sister was driving, she just has her permit, when she hit black ice. She wasn’t able to get the truck back under control and went up an embankment, clipped a tree, and rolled the truck. It was a 2002 Tundra SR5 with the TRD Off Road package.

I’m just glad they both made it out ok.

We don’t need another vehicle right away since the truck was just and extra vehicle but I guess I may be looking for a new truck sooner than I planned.

Glad they are ok. I’m sure they are pretty shook up though, especially your sister who is just learning to drive. She will probably need a little more support, and be reluctant to drive, as this is a scary thing for a youngster just starting out.

Yeah I’m going to look into one of those classes that teach you how to handle a vehicle in situations like that to hopefully help her confidence behind the wheel.

She’s 5 yrs younger than I am so she didn’t benefit from driving go karts and quads like my older sister, twin sister and I did.

I was impressed with how well it held up for being an older vehicle.

Glad everyone is ok - cars can be replaced, people can't.. When I was starting out, my driving school had a skid program in which we tossed around old beater cars in a wide open parking lot (was in the winter, too) which helped me out tremendously. I highly recommend it, and my son will do the same when he is of age (he is only 15 months now.. lol).

Yeah I think it’s important to be in that situation in a more controlled setting so you know what to do if it happens on the road.

Damn...good to see that the truck took all the damage and no one was hurt. Ice is no joke no matter what you drive.

If all OK without any problems, time to support the economy and get a new truck. A lot cheaper than hospital.
