    Get the same thing on my 22' Tacoma and 10' 4Runner. May have something to do with the crap CA blends we get but who knows. I've added black Toyota tips to both vehicles and wipe them clean when I wash them...

    Say what you want, but I've never had a dirty exhaust tip from 87 grade fuel on any of my past toyota trucks let alone this one....it's very clean, no sooty deposits, as long as I use 87 or 89. This truck runs better than my 4.7 v8 tundra. In fact with over 22k miles now, its a rocket, just a great running truck.

    Interesting. The first link says it's most common under low load driving. I do a lot of highway miles. I daily drive a Corolla

    There are multiple "ways" to cause this, but there's no need for concern. Some brands of gasoline even seem to create more than others.
