One way or another @Jasonstacoma is getting screwed. For only $3. :D

The screw was there from factory, you can see the marks in the metal around the hole of the switch. If a new screw tightens up and holds I’d be happy for a $3 fix.

not knowing op or the dealer in in way shape or form, here is my take. OP treated the said Parts and/or Service guy with entitled type attitude. Obviously OP knows screws, threads, bolts etc... better than said parts/service guy. Since said smarty pants acts like a douche, a $0.30 cent screw gets mentioned online seeking other mechanical engineers opinions to back up said douchieness .. If you were cool to parts/service guy, this would have never come up and you'd have a "free" screw and so would Karen

This makes about the most sense. Hard to imagine it backed out without causing damage to the door.

That's a switch, not a sensor. Its for the courtesy (dome, doors, etc) lights.

It does appear to have been tightened when originally installed. Look closely and you can see a shiny circle around the hole where the bolt goes through the body. It was tightened enough to scratch the washer made into the switch. However, the circle is asymmetrical.

Seems like something else odd may have happened. My guess,....admittedly a guess, is maybe the switch wasn't seated correctly to the body (angled in crooked), the bolt went in against the mis-aligned part and was tight. Then, when the door was closed and hit the switch, it correctly aligned the switch, and then the bolt became loose.

I can't believe they would let you leave unhappy over a $3 part. With that being said, the parts department cant hand over parts without a repair order. The dealer is not "Toyota". It is a representative of Toyota and warranty business they bill to Toyota pays their techs just the same so they would be happy to get paid .1 labor hours if they had the old screw to turn in as a deflective part. However, if you had the screw in your hand you wouldn't need one :D. Let us know if they warranty the screw because I might have some stuff magically fall off my truck.

Maybe I’m being too simplistic, but why are you dealing with the parts guy for warranty? If you’re trying to get the part and install it yourself, then yes he probably will say it’s not warranty item. Deal with the service department for warranty, take it in, let them deal with it, including installing the screw. Yes it’s a pain that Manufacturers won’t even let you install a screw, but understandable in many circumstances.

This is the best advise. Go to the service dept. Tell them dome light intermittently not working. Bam new screw!

Ha. I think its funny some people presume i removed it to get a free screw? The world of conspiracy! Jfc, i have better things to do with my life than to stop by a dealership and waste time .

Either way thanks for all the opinions, i may just make an appointment to get it fixed, idk if there may be messed up threads or something causing it to fall out. Let them bill toyota for a warranty fix.

You would be better off pulling the one from the pasenger door, go to lowes, Home depression or ace hardware and find a matching one.
