So I have a '99 Jeep Cherokee that I love. The old girl is gettin on however and i need something new to take some of the strain of daily driving off. Ive done my research and i think a Tacoma is it. I got a motorcycle this summer too, so i could use something to haul it with sometimes.

I was on the trail of a pre owned '13 TRD Offroad with 35,xxx on it. Walked out of the dealer the first time because of excessive "fees". They called me back, I said $27000 total and ill take it. Just went back in after they said lets do it and by the end it was back at $28500, walked again tonight. Think $28500 is alright? I feel like I should just go new at that point.

I am going to go to a dealer tomorrow who seems to have all positive internet reviews to look at a '13 TRD Sport with 20,xxx for $27900 and a new 2015 TRD Offroad listed for $34,500. I have been reading up on invoice vs. msrp ect. Seems like i could offer a little less that $34500 but not much.

Should i just try to go new? having enough money to afford this kind of thing is very new to me. i have never had a car that i didnt just pay all cash for. going to dealerships makes me want to go totally postal. What kind of offer should I come in with for the new 2015? What should i not go above? Do i wait till the end of the month? what if someone else gets it?

any help appreciated, I hope to join your ranks soon.

Welcome to TW! I was also a former Jeep owner (04 wrangler rubicon).

The Tacomas are great, and the 4.0 is a good solid engine. Ifs is a little different than the Jeep solid front axle, but rides nice. Lifts are more complicated if going more than a couple inches.

I got my brand new 2015 TRD off road double cab for about $32k. Msrp was $34.5 I think. Saving $3ishK by buying a 3yr old truck with 36k miles where the bumper to bumper warranty is expired just doesn't make sense to me. These trucks have absurd resale, literally the highest out of any vehicle sold in the USA, which pushed me to buy new. I definitely do not regret it.

Yea this is what people are saying, it is just going to be the most i have ever spent on anything and it makes me nervous. Excited at the same time, i've never had a new car.

I have one crappy pic of the one at the dealership i am not going back to. I will post once i pull the trigger on one definitely. They are not in over abundance in suburban NYC so its a little harder.

It was the most expensive vehicle I've ever purchased as well. If you are sure you will keep it for many years it is money well spent. If not you could sell it in a few years and only lose a few thousand. :)

Be sure to get the off road with the locker and off road ATRAC traction control if you intend to take it out on the trails.

What he said ^ Same logic applied to me.

I was able to get mine from almost 33k MSRP down to 29k and some change, so I was out the door under MSRP. You can deal. I used the trucar pricing, the fact that it was about to be outdated, and chevy prices (it was their truck month) as bargaining chips.

Good luck, no matter what you'll love the truck.

Well I did it! Lightly Pre owned 2015 TRD Offroad with 11,500 miles. About fourth in color choice, but I got a great deal. What do I do now? Haha, probably going to keep it a pretty stock daily for a few years and work on making my old Jeep a beastly beater.

Id really like to take off the mud flaps but was reading that this was leading to paint chipping by some people. Anyone have any experience with that?

Better pictures to come, my next acquisition might have to be a new phone with a decent camera... truck.jpg

    Congrats on the new truck!

If you want shorter flexible flaps to still protect the side of your truck instead of the awful super long flaps that will break off road, this is an option: RokBlokz flaps
