Did not read the whole thread. When I compared the indicated mileage to the calculated mileage (miles traveled divided by gallons used) the difference was negligible. My truck is indicating 22.5 now. Winter blend was worse, around 21.

The truck is basically stock, with LT 265/75R16, load range E tires. The speedometer agrees with the occasional radar speed monitors. The odometer appears to be accurate.

Bought my truck brand new in 2019, drove it 400 miles across California averaging 75-80 MPH and got sub-20 mpg. It's a manual and I know every mph over 65 on a truck is punishing the the gas mileage was disappointing. It's the only thing I dont like about my truck

    TEST #2

Basically a verifying repeat of test #1. The only major difference was I had to take the truck in for a state safety inspection.
No idea how long they let it sit and idle while doing the inspection. Same gas station different pump.

Over a 3 week period. Truck was driven 7 days/week.
Mon-Friday 22 miles round trip to work & back. 2 miles 45 mph zone, 6 stoplights. 20 miles 65-70 mph interstate hwy.
Weekend, all city driving. Gym then to local Diner for lunch both days. Then Big box or local market.
Probably 4-5 other stops over the 3 weekends. Probably 70 miles total over the weekends with multiple stoplights along the way.

Total tire adjusted miles test #2 383 miles. Total gallons used (3 clicks) 18.58 = 20.61 mpg.
Again dash calculated mpg vs. miles driven/gallons used, almost spot on.

Just did a fill up 5.09 a gallon. Sucks because my fuel economy is still about same at 22.3 mpg...just costing me way more.

I get 21.9mpg driving 13 miles from the burbs of Pittsburgh to downtown Pittsburgh on the 5th floor of a parking garage. On the way home, I drive the exact same route home and get 18.5mpg. Average is 20.25mpg commuting 1/3 suburbia, 1/3 highway, 1/3 downtown.

    When I do 100% suburbia, its 17mpg. When I drive 100% highway (77mph), its 18mpg. When I drive 100% state highway (50-63mph), its 23mpg.

Agreed. I replaced my fat tires with stock OR wheels and SR sized skinny tires, dropped my lift down by 1" . Now I'm at 22 mpg every day to work vs 19.2 before... It looks boring, but every sip of fuel matters right now.

i'd be interested to see how much timing advance each particular truck is running and how that effects mpgs. might be tough to compare considering the timing advance is pretty dynamic/constantly changing. some trucks may be pulling timing due to weather/gas quality/pinging/elevation and that could make a big difference.

You are correct on the timing. Dwell and advance especially.

It's all about how far you advance the accelerator pedal. And how long you dwell on it.

Noted it again this weekend, but my onboard MPG calculator is generally VERY close, usually within .1-.2 compared to my Fuelly math. This last tank was dead-on perfect.

Seems Toyota's dash mileage calculator is not too shabby.

My 2020 is pretty accurate. My wife's 2016 RAV4 is about 5% off.

2018 TRD Off Road Manual: 27,XXX miles and 100% stock (I keep my tires about 35 psi) and owned since brand new. The average mpg of all my fill ups is 19.11. My max average for a tank is 23.08 for 322 miles (and I noted in my tracking spreadsheet it was all highway at approx. 60 mph with a slight tailwind). My worst average for a tank was 15.12 for 206 miles (and I noted in my spreadsheet that was interstate 75 mph straight into a strong wind). I reset the trip odometer each fill up and go off of that mileage and when the pump clicks off.

I've definitely noticed my manual likes to be in the 40-60 mph zone for best mpg's. It really falls off at 70 and above. I've never bothered seeing how close my calculation comes to the truck's calculation.

My wife's 4runner Limited with 67,XXX miles, 100% stock, 35 psi tires, also owned since new has a lifetime running average of 18.36 mpg. She is a bit more heavy footed than I am. I drive pretty conservatively. It would be interesting to see MY average in the 4runner over a period of a few months to a year. I'd bet it is close to my Taco. We both do a mix of city and highway driving.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is now that gas is approaching $5.00/gallon, I just try to drive my old beater 30+ mpg getting Corolla everywhere.

34.2 with my 4 cylinder. But only on a Tuesday night when it’s cooler and the wind is at my back and I’m going downhill.

Whatever it is, my truck runs like a champ om E10 87 grade fuel. Anything higher and fuel economy drops.

While back when gas was sub $2 / gallon I didn't check. Now that it's pushing $5 / gallon, I check.
That said. Not my damn fault.
