    The certified pre-owned inspection process really isn't more extensive than those 30-pt courtesy inspections you get at an oil change. The dealer isn't going to drop the transmission pan or open the diff third member to inspect the gears inside, or recharge the A/C refrigerant.

    Most extended warranties are basically insurance policies. Read the fine print and they are usually underwritten by an insurance company. They are not saying the vehicle will be reliable. They are just betting, based on statistical data, that the repair bill within the warranty period will be less than the premiums you paid (either separately or rolled into the vehicle price).
