 You're complaining about 390 miles out of a tank of gas? Did you run it until it was completely dry or something, because even if you used all 21 gallons in the tank, that's almost 19 MPG. I've yet to put in more than 18 on a fill up, so that'd be closer to 22 MPG.

A couple of other things to note:

    1. Cruise control will give you terrible fuel efficiency, especially on hills.
    2. Pulse and glide, or whatever the hypermilers call it does work... I'm using a friend's scanguage, and am averaging 34 MPG on my way home from work using this method on hills (17 mile trip). I use the highway instead of the interstate, (60 mph vs. 75 mph) and accelerate a little at the top of hills then coast down. This route is mostly downhill, so if I use it going to work, I get around 22 MPG. Using the Scangauge has definitely helped point out my bad driving tendencies.

ok so I won't use the cruise control anymore on the hills cause it lets off the gas down the hills and it hits the gas going uphill using more energy. I use the truck mainly for commuting to/from work and dropping my 12 yr old kid to school. She doesn't want me to get rid of it. She wants it when she gets her license.lol. In spring of next year we gonna take vacation trip to Colorado Springs, CO. Just me and my daughter. Her mom works in another city and been asking me to have another child for the past couple months. but i don't know. If I do have another kid, I'll need to get the double cab to fit a baby seat. lol.:D

From a Rwd F150 to a 4x4 Taco. A whole 547 miles on it and you want to get a Hybrid SUV cause your truck is getting exactly what the EPA sticker mpg said. Unbeleivable.

DOOOD....390 a tank.......... I WOULD KILL FOR THAT!!

08 DC 4x4....... fack.....15mpg. The best I've gotten was 19.8 mpg... never even broke 20.... sucky.....

I use www.fuelfrog.com to track my mpg..... it gives you a graph.... it's pretty cool to have a graph and records so you can look at it and get depressed.....

but when I was climbing over rocks and hills up a mountain in the snow to get to a secret fishing hole, i could care less about the MPG.... to busy thinking about how bad azz my taco was....... Ford Escape doesn't compare man.... Good luck

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
My 05 DC PreRunner TRD has 59k on it and I've been getting ~18mpg mixed (mainly city). I'm sure once I take a trip in it or something the mpg will increase.

It is lifted, however, and wears larger shoes (Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos).

390 miles on a tank would around 19 mpg (basing on a 20 gallon +/- fill up)... But whatever it was Toyota engines tend to keep improving for at least 5000 miles and some claim as much as 20000 miles. My (2.7L) mileage improvement leveled off around 16-17000.

I'm north of 70k on mine and just don't put my foot into it. Even with bigger tires I average between 320 to 350 a tank. Also not speeding I have become a calmer driver. That is with a 90 mile round trip commute

HUH... I have been taking it super easy, mainly because of break-in, and on my first two take I got 20.3mpg and 19.6mpg. I live in Pittsburgh, which is also hilly, and all of my driving is in the city. Now been driving like Miss Daisy, but still...

How are you calculating your averages?

Are you really selling your truck after just 547 miles??? Give love a chance, man!

Selling, returning, trading-in? Please tell me you're going to recover 100% of what you paid.

If you're selling it to somebody or trading it in, I bet you're about to lose a good amount of money. How long before you make that up in gas savings?

Hi. here's how i did calculation.
Truck had 8 miles after the test drive. Dealer gave me full tank after that. 21 galons. so starting from 8 miles on the first tank, the Empty light was on for about 15 miles coming home from work. so when i filled second tank odometer read 396-397 miles. so i subtract the initial 8 miles from this number which gives me 388 miles to the 1st tank. divide it by 21 galons, and I get 18.5 mpg.
Really it's not much improvement from my F-150 as I expected, but what I been doing was testing the cruise control to get familiar w/ it. but i think my mistake was using it maybe half the time on the hilly areas.

uh... did you put 21 gallons in it when you filled it up?

you have to divide the miles by how many gallons you put in when you fill up. dividing it by 21 every time isn't going to give you a correct calculation.

+1.....you divide miles driven by gallons put in at fill up, not the size of the tank. The gas light will come on with at least 4 gallons to spare, so driving 15 miles, you still had at least 3 gallons in the tank.

For the record, I am lucky to get 300 miles out of a tank. I average between 280 and 295. Probably doesn't help that I am running the 285/70/17 mud tires, but at least gas has dropped recently and I only fill up every other week.

I agree with everyone about giving it a little while to let the engine break in. Remember, Toyotas hold there value far better than just about every other vehicle out there. If after you've broken in the engine, you're still not satisfied, then consider trading or selling your truck. You'll be suprised what it is still worth.
