Because you make no sense. Again, why didn't you research in the first place? The mileage you're getting is typical of every Tacoma in that configuration and your lack of knowledge just doesn't make sense to any of us. Besides, you're on a Tacoma enthusiasts site. What exactly did you think would happen?

Just go buy your hybrid. It's obvious you never wanted a truck in the first place which brings us back to my original point.

NO MODS YET! 20" Enkeis with NT420 performance tires coming soon...inspired by genxer36.
Lol ok, perhaps it was a bit hasty of me to give up. Well I am a newbie. I'm going to keep the truck and take advice I learned from this thread .break it in more, get that scangauge thingy and change driving habits too. I want it to do better in mpg. I'm going to try it. Hybrid will have to wait:D

thats about it.... when i first got the truck i was getting about 200 mpg.... i was like , but since i was driving a 4cyl 2.0 small car before the truck my driving was bad, a lot of accelerations, revs and stuff, but finally im seeing good numbers after 9000 km :D

Edit: i meant 200 miles for a tank.... damn you xtreme LOL

Hey how much did the scan gauge cost you? And how hard to install? I'd love to get one for my (1st gen) truck.

My Scangauge2 cost me $159.95 off ebay. It is entirely a plug-n-play install. just find a place to mount the SG2(adhesive backed velcro is included), locate the OBD2 port, run the cable from the unit to the OBD2 port and plug it in. then follow the setup on screen after reading the steps in the manual and you're good to go. that easy:)

Now my question is.. obviously you're installing on a new Taco.. mine is a 2000, meaning it's a diff generation, does that matter? I don't know what that port is, and although it's possible I just havent seen it before, i'm also worried I don't have one.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but it's related info and the original thread topic is pretty much dead anyways.

OBD2 is the standard from 1996 and newer vehicles. it is the 2nd generation of On Board vehicle Diagnostics port and it should be located right under the dash on the driver's side, probably near the corner by the door. its maybe 1" by 2" rectangular so it should be easy to spot.

    so in the last week

    - you had a bad experience with one toyota dealership (I went to 4)
    - decided against toyota because of 1 dealership and bought a ranger
    - was offered free service for life by toyota so you made ford take back the ranger and got a toyota
    - you calculate mpg wrong and still get better than 90% of us here and better than the window sticker and complain
    - you calculate mpg on an engine that is not even broken in yet and probably on winter blend gas
    - you use cruise control on hills and still get 20 mpg.
    - you want to get a hybrid which gets max mpg in the city, yet you live in a hilly rural area that spends most of the time over 30 mpg under load ...so you are basically getting a gas car with a tiny engine that will struggle up hills and get under window sticker for mpg.

are you sure its not just us being obsessed with the truck?

Secondary Air Filter removal. More to come hopefully.

Thats the main thing. You don't divide by 21 gallons, because you rarely use every bit of the 21 gallons of fuel in your tank. Good point. I think a lot of people make this mistake.
