Powder coating hides cheap steel. By the time you see it, it's too late.

I had no idea Toytec was even still around! Looks like their stuff is still rusting even years later. Glad I went full coilovers!

FWIW, those spring failures look like the classic fatigue failure. Fatigue failure on springs shouldn't exist. They typically design for infinite life. My '63 Buick was a rust bucket that lived in the rust belt. It was 18 years old when it died of a piston rod failure. Springs....... were rusty, just like everything else on that car.

This type of failure can be accelerated from under specification heat treatment or steel material during manufacture.

IMHO, the powder coating is not helping prevent the corrosion. Water will penetrate under the coating to begin the rust. As water/salt/brine/dirt sits under the powder coat....it never has a chance to dry. It stays wet all the time the corrosion doesn't slow.

Well said. Our Nation uses up billions of tons of steel every year, ships it to China, India, and other places only to be melted down into more monkey metal for our market. I think everyone knows, the quality of steel used in 50's and 60's cars makes the shit we have today look like tin foil. The difference now is they try to make it pretty using colors that match our driving gloves and socks.

Cars today are tinfoil in comparison because we can no longer accept 5500 lb sedans that get 10.3 MPG and have no safety systems.

Even a $100 shock last longer with $10 worth of maintenance. OP completely neglected to maintain his suspension despite living in a high salt environment.

Pick your brand, pick your price range. They will all turn to shit if you treat them this way.

Learn how to be a responsible owner or deal with the results.

Lot of people in here, too, that think a high end shock isn’t susceptible to these issues - that is not the case. You paid for quality of the components, the adjustability and the performance. It’s still just a shock, still in a shock environment. Maintain it.

I’ve purchased more than a few sets of Toytec coilovers and a few other parts over the past 10 years, no issues and great customer service. My last set were Icons, (from someone else) never liked them on the street.

Purchased and installed Toytec coilovers on my 2021 last week. They were setup perfectly with maximum lift, the inner boots having about a credit cards clearance between the fins after settling. I have a 1” block in the back, love the leveled look. Rides a little firmer than stock, but less jarring over the bumps. For the price and being a daily driver, it’s perfect.
