May I recommend a prius if you wanted better Mpg's. Also I hear smart car is making a truck the smart truck you should look into that

Shit, I filled up yesterday, did the math, and wound up getting 16 MPG average. What do I care, gas prices will never stop me from enjoying my Tacoma!

Even if you get similar gas mileage you are going to save money if gas prices there are like they are here where diesel is about $0.85+ per gallon more than unleaded. Your oil changes will cost half as much, it is quieter, handles better, will last longer, be more reliable overall and it will be much less likely to ever leave oil on your garage floor. I've had 4 Toyota trucks, 5 Chevy trucks, 3 Fords and a Jeep. Learned my lesson...nothing but Toyota's from now on. Couldn't keep the Chevies aligned, couldn't keep money in the bank from fixing the Fords, and couldn't keep the Jeep running. Stick with it and you will learn to love it.

I agree, for the size of the truck the mileage isn't great. What you're forgetting when comparing the Tacoma to the Duramax is the much higher initial cost, added fuel cost for diesel (at least diesel is more expensive than regular grade here) and higher maintenance cost of the diesel. It's an apples and oranges comparison in my opinion.

Hi Neal welcome to tw  Agree with your post.
yeah my mileage was not the greatest either & my 4.6 tundra gets the same as my 4.0 v6 did.
I found my best option was to keep my rpms under or near 2k.
epa recommendations off the sticker at times are dreamland.
Some 4x4 folks do alright here. The prerunners & 5 luggers seem to get the best.
    Congrats on the new truck.

Yeah I know keep my foot out it!!! I guess smaller truck smaller engine I thougt would do better. Speed limits around here are 70 to 75 so if I hold RPMs down I am getting run over by everyone including the big trucks, not a pretty picture.

You will do fine...I honestly noticed an improvement in my MPG when I put Amsoil motor oil in it. It helped me get into the 300s per tank instead of almost 300 per tank. I drive mostly city stop and go traffic to and from work....Give your truck a chance to impress you before you hate the milage. Go wheeling and you will def see the addiction we all have (minus RAY). Truck is solid and will give you just about no issues all the way into the 250k+ mark. To me, that is damn impressive! Enjoy your truck and welcome. :worthless::thumbsup::wave:
