I raised my two sons in the back seat of my 2001 OR, and the back of those seats went straight up. Never a complaint, they rode in the back of that truck through HS and even when the one came home from College, now they all have their own cars, but one does have the 2001 :) I think the 2016 has plenty, but it's mid-size, if we go somewhere and use my truck, I do slide my seat up a bit. We are all about the same size 6' or 6'1" and it's fine.

That's almost true, not only your friends/family wants to use your truck to move stuff but if you got a double cab. They always want to use your double cab to carpool in. For example, driving my friends to the bar, well I gotta work in the morning and end up staying later than I want to or I always gotta pick somebody up at the airport etc etc. If I had a Reg cab or even access cab. Only 1 person riding with me rather than 2 or 4. Less people will be asking me to carpool or do shit all the time. Then it becomes not my problem.

But sometimes having a doublecab is nice to have like taking your family out or put more stuff in.

Well, you're dammed if you do and you're dammed if you dont.

I actually think the ACs look better. They have better proportions. The DCLB don't look too bad proportionally either.

I think the DCSB can look lopsided/front heavy.

I got one of the 1st gen 1 DCSB's when they came out in 2000 (2001 model). This replaced my '90 gen 0 AC. Didn't use it much for hauling people, so when I went to replace it in 2014, I thought seriously about going back to the AC. Have a dog now, though, and decided the extra room was worth it. Also went with the long bed, which has been a mixed blessing. Like the extra room, but being a foot longer and 6" wider than my '01, it s much more difficult to park in narrow spots.
As far as room - did several hours in the back of my '01 on one trip, but the others in front were shorter, so not so bad for me at 6'.
Took the new truck for a 3 hour drive with dad & BIL, both of whom are 6'. I had the drivers seat back as usual, so they were both on the passengers side with the seat positioned in a compromise position. Not too uncomfortable, but not something they'd want to do very often.

It just depends on what u get used to, right??

I have a regular cab with a bench, and even access cab jump seats to me would feel spacious at this point. Double cab would be luxury seating!

On the flip side, if you are used to a full size truck or more spacious sedan or suv, im sure DC is tight.

Ps Cramming 3 people on the bench and reaching btwn middle persons legs to shift sucks. Fortunately i only do that on rare occasion.

I did a road trip in the spring with my 2 adult siblings. While we're all pretty close in height, I'm the tallest at 5'9". The ~15 or so total hours I spent in the backseat I found to be reasonably comfortable. Well, except when my brother was at the wheel off pavement but that's a whole other thing. It certainly helped that whoever was sitting in front of me wasn't putting their seat back all the way, and at the same time I never felt the need to get anyone to pull up either. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I personally like the Access cab because I think out of all the Tacoma model lineups its a rare model. At least here in NJ its rare you see that many.I don't have the total production numbers vs the regular cab.But if someone can post those figures I would appreciate it.

    It`s a midsize truck

I suggest buying Mid size car or full size truck or car for more backseat room

Toyota doesn't regularly release the model mix numbers. In one of the years, the mix was 55/35/10% double/access/regular.

My dealer orders ONLY DC LB configuration... and most are 4X4 also... That's what he calls "knowing your client base". Short boxed Tacos are as rare as hen's teeth around here... almost as much as the 4X2's...

I agree with you. Access Cab looks like a normal pickup!

I have to have a long bed for my use (yes, I know it is shocking I actually use the bed on a regular basis). Short bed is too short even with an extender. The DCLB is too long (overall length) to park in my driveway without my wife screaming about how it gets in her way pulling into the garage. So...for me the AC is the only solution. DCLB also is not an optimal config for off road due to the wheel base but that wasn't my issue.

I call the back seats of the AC "for short term use only" and I am perfectly fine with that. By the way, the worst interior design change ever IMO was when Toyota changed to the current AC jump seats from the old fold down platforms that made the back of the Tacoma much more capable of keeping your stuff inside the truck.

Yes, and when your client base is predominantly Asian, as it is in my area, the Toyota dealer has zero trucks on the lot. It's full of "appliance" vehicles (Camry, Corolla, Sienna, Prius). It was a similar situation six years ago - I had to drive to another dealer about 12 miles away just to find a Tacoma to test drive.

LED tall lights, locking gas cap, light paint work, detailing, and I just started a custom stereo install.
I don't fit back there either. My kid sits back there in the middle using his booster chair.
