My 2012 DCSB Tacoma tripped 40,000 miles this week. I bought it new in early 2012 so I've had it basically 6 years now or about 5 years and 8 months to be exact. I have not done a build thread and this will not be it. This will be my thoughts and opinions good or bad as truthful as I can make them after living with this truck for this time. I will probably post off and on as thoughts come to mind and as time allows (have job) so please look over any rambling. Also this is not my 1st Tacoma it is my 3rd. 2 1st Gens and now this 2nd Gen and I've also had a couple Tundra's.

    40K on the dot

Now for the only thing that I'm not exactly proud of on this truck. The 3" lift or to be exact 2.75" lift.
It's block and spacer. OOOH! I said the bad words. :anonymous:
My thoughts...As far as what I use the truck for works fine. 95% mall crawler 5% light OR. No issues so far but again only 40K miles.
No shake no shimmy and tracks strait as an arrow. I put 32-33K miles on my 1st set of tires (lift, tires and wheels at <1K miles) and the tires wore evenly. I only changed them to go up in size to 285/70/17. Factory ride is 90% as before maybe 10% stiffer. Alignment done at lift install and all met factory spec.

    Ok....:crapstorm:

So as far as spacer lifts go I've had no problems. But again only 40K mile. We'll see at 80-100K and up.

The truck is my daily driver to work and back each day. Mostly 4 lane and even with the larger tires averages about 18 mpg give or take.
I use to have to fill her up every 2 weeks driving her weekdays and on weekends. But I added a Backflip Tonneau cover about 2 years ago.
Now they say they don't add any MPG. But after adding the Backflip now I can go another day between fill ups. So it appears it added about
    1 more mpg.
Any of you guys noticed any improvements in gas mileage adding a bed cover?

Nice looking truck I dig the sticker a lot. The way you drive it seems it'll last you a helluva long time hats off to ya. I bought my 15 in April with 40k now I have 52k.

Nice post... I am thinking of doing something similar but mine is a 2010 Off Road 4x4 with 107,000 miles. Also, it is my third Tacoma, too.
Thank you for taking the time to share your progress with the truck. I personally could not be happier, overall!

Great looking truck OP! @TRD-ED I love the silver on the 12-15s

This is the same case for me as well. I bought my 13 in april with 24k on the clock and im up to 33k already! I never thought I drove that much, but apparently its more than I thought.

I wasn't sure about this thread after I started it. I made the first 4 posts and after 3-4 hours not a single Like or reply.
I thought to myself. I must have made a big mistake or 3.
    • Being Blacklisted.... For even daring to mention spacer and or block :sorry:
    • Not a Build Thread

That or either my Truck Sux or I'm boring as Hell......

    It is a learning curve!
What were the previous two Tacomas you drove?

I had a 2002 extended cab SR5 4X4 5 speed 4 banger I bought new in 2002. I absolutely loved that truck. But like a dumb ass I traded it in on a Tundra.
By the time I got around to wanting another Tacoma (Tundra> 4-Runner> Frontier :anonymous: :sorry:
the 2nd Gens were out with there original front ends. They just didn't quiet appeal to me like my 1st Gen did.
So I traded the Frontier in on a New Hemi Challenger in 2010 and bought a used 1999 Single cab 4X4 5 speed as a daily driver.
It had about 225K on it as best I remember. Kept them both 2 years sold the Tacoma for $1,000 more than I paid (never spent a dime on it) 15K later
and traded the Challenger in on my current Rig.

My 1999 when I bought it in 2010 with 225K on it. One owner with a clean Carfax.

Had mine a little over 8 years and 62,000 miles. Only unplanned replacement was DRL (headlights) on extended warranty. Retired 5 years ago, so monthly mileage is down to about 500 from 900 when commuting. Been extremely happy with the truck.

I wish they would make the ac/heater fan blower fail a warrantee item. The headlights were replaced.

It's not covered under 36 month 36,000 mile warranty? Or was it past?

I'll be close to similar mileage when my truck is 6 years old. I work from home, so that saves a lot of miles. This is the first vehicle I've bought that I intend to keep a while. I purposely bought a '15 as the last model year, figuring it'll last me a good long while. It's the right size, and it works for me. Glad it's worked out for you, too!

This is the longest I've ever owned any vehicle in over 30 years of driving.

    Work from home

How many miles you got on her now?
