Well my 99 tacoma isn't running right. First, when taking off right after start up I will take off and it will kindof sputter in second and third gear. Second it gets worse gas mileage than normal. Could it be the maf or do you think it could be spark plugs I don't know when the last time they was changed.

Could be the MAF. And might as well go ahead and change the plugs anyway. i just changed mine. they were only 3 bucks a piece from toyota

Yeh that's what I was thinking I'm going to get me some cleaner and plugs while I'm in town hopefully that helps. I don't like spending 100 dollars a week on gas.

silly question, is the CEL on?

For drivability its a good start to check out the basics: plugs, MAF, emission components. Truck came in this morning with a P0420, catalyst below threshold....drove like absolute garbage. Sputtered, felt like it didnt want to stay running and was a DOG!

    Hope that helps at all.

    check engine light.

so your saying your having a hard time driving in low gears when its not warmed up and your gas mileage is bad?

well winter blend gas will get worse mileage regardless of anything. my truck has hard time driving if i dont let it sit for a bit to warm up (which I dont). might just be a common cold start drive right away type of thing. see what happens with your gas mileage as you start using summer blend gas

Well if the CEL isnt on im guessin its probably either the plugs or the MAF. Not sure if the CEL comes on if the MAF is dirty or not. Let us know OP if it gets any better once you replace/clean those

Well ive never cleaned my maf sensor so im not too sure what all you need to do. but for spark plugs its pretty easy just dont break your intake tube when takin it off. i broke mine pretty easy. that was on my old landcruiser though. i was careful on my tacoma haha

My truck ran like shit and got terrible gas mileage until I realized it had several cracks in the exhaust manifold. Replaced it with an LCE header, and I am back up on power and getting 18mpg on 33's.
