    You planned on keeping it forever..

    You will regret selling it..

    Keep it and turn it into a hunting rig! Line-x the whole thing inside and out! Just go full beater/dirty/knobby tires!

    I've seen some guys do it before, usually old 4runners and late 80s pickups. These were dedicated OR rigs though..

    Provided you can pay cash for your next truck you should keep the Tacoma and get a full size.
    You should also sell the explorer and get a mini-van. Kids smash crap with doors. SUVs are better for older kids.

    A double cab tacoma is not a good family vehicle. Plus a short bed is useless so if you do want another Tacoma get a DCLB.

    Do not go into debt to pay for cars, especially when you talk about kids. Make the decision that makes the most sense financially and don’t get lavish with cars.
    Your kids will appreciate having parents with no money issues more than having a more ideal car.

    The only time you ever piss away money on a diesel is when it is 100% neccessary.
