Bump for a question I asked in post 39.
I've got parts coming, and I don't want to start only to have to stop and get more parts.
    Thankyousomuch!

Mine come out from the firewall and run parallel for about 4.25 in. and are separated by about an inch. But mine is a '14. It looks like your firewall took some type of impact?? Those two black plastic clamps have 2 each "O" rings under them and it does not look like they are leaking there. Nor does the piping look crimped. There is a separate aluminum manifold tube on the other side of those plastic clamps that connects to the TXV valve and is available as a spare part. I'll check a bit later to see if there has been parts revisions. Tag me if you don't hear back.

Thank you for the reply. This motor got replaced at 238k.
I had the system evacuated Saturday and was told there was about a half pound of refrigerant in the system. my o-rings and whatnot from that list you supplied should be here tomorrow.

Well, I got into the parts diagrams and there have been no revisions. Looking at you pics again and looking at mine it would appear that the tubes have been bent. Because there is a junction under those black plastic couplings with a connecting aluminum manifold to the TXV valve, and then a connection of the TXV valve to a mounting flange on the evaporator, this would be a good place for a leak.

The question is what to do about the matter? You can bet that if you try to bend things back its then going to leak for sure. I'm thinking that if this were mine, and was planning to replace all the seals anyway up to the evaporator, I would probably get the kit for the TXV valve which includes the valve, manifold tubes, inlet filter. I would also get two new of those black plastic couplings. If you are lucky, the bend/deflection primarily occurred before the evaporator.

I just got my parts, and someone else's. Oops. No matter, started the process to return those if they want them back. Looking at the TVX kit, the guy who replaced the motor whacked the lines coming through the firewall.
Here's hoping it didn't take out the evaporator... :fingerscrossed:

I just replaced the TVX valve and associated seals. I'm going to pull a vacuum on it before I do the rest.
The liquid line had a nice bend and i think that tweaked a seal.

I'm thinking most of the bend damage should be limited to that aluminum header tube connecting to TXV valve. Let's hope so. Did you examine whether the mount on the evaporator (where the TXV valve connects to it) was tweaked at all?

Just so you know, a paper towel will keep dirt out, but will let air and water vapor in. Better to use a piece of a ziplock bag, and tape that shut.

@Taco'09 I did not see anything obvious. Although, the lower tube didn't seat when the upper tube did. I attribute that too the inline filter.
@CurtB I was more concerned with dirt and such. I figured any moisture vapor that got in will be removed when i pull the vacuum before recharging.

If the lines are going to be unhooked for several days, water vapor can get to the dessicant, eventually saturating it. A deep vacuum may get it out, but the dessicant might degrade and a fine white dust will start clogging the system.
You might consider a new condenser while you are fixing the AC.

The system is closed back up. But yes, I really don't want any moisture that's in there hanging around for too long.

Did you have to have a special tool to get those 2 round clamps off at the firewall. Do they snap shut ?

I bought new clamps so I just broke the old ones off at the lock.
And yes, they just snapped locked no special tool needed.

Ha, I break them every time and know how they work.

Keep going. I'm anxious to see hear how this works out.
I probably overdue the vacuum step and go as far doing a deep vacuum and change the oil in the vacuum pump. Its just that air and moisture in the system are your enemies

One thing you might want to keep in mind is limiting air entry to zero if possible. Every time you hook up/disconnect something always ask yourself if the way you are doing it will allow a charge of air to be introduced from either the gauges, lines, etc. and how do I minimize the air so only the refrig gets in.

I'm getting a vacuum pump tomorrow. By tomorrow night I should know if I'm good to go.

As for minimizing air entry, these hf gauges have a valve at each port. Just gotta remember to, "close" those before popping them off. The Purge on the yellow feed hose will get the bulk of the manifold.

Holding steady for 10 minutes. I'll give it another 30 at least.

Edit: the needle is actually sitting in the middle of the 3.

Edit again: it's held for almost an hour! I think I'm good to go. Gonna run the pump for another hour or so and call it a night.

Let the pump run for another hour last night and left the gauges hooked up. This morning, the needle have moved! Time to go get some 134a.
