Hello All, Just joined TacomaWorld forum. Hoping someone can help me out. I have a 2005 Tacoma of which the A/C is not operating correctly. The drivers vent is the coolest and the far passenger side vent is putting out warm air. Can anyone help a guy out as to what could be the source of the problem. Don't want to take it in for repair without some sort of idea of what it could be as the shop will probably just start replacing parts until they find the problem.

Just for starters, have you replaced the cabin air filter?

I could be wrong but I thought Toyota didn't start putting cabin air filters into the Tacoma until 2006, I know 1st gens didn't have them and someone once mentioned on here that the first year of the 2nd gens didn't either.

You most likely have an ac leak and are low on freon. Try to find a shop that is mostly ac repair. They will have the best chance to know what they are doing and get it done. My 2014 did the same thing and it was a bad hose at the compressor.

What doesn't make sense is he says it is cooler from one vent then it is from the other vent. It should be warm air from every vent if it was low on freon.

It really sucks when you're on a dusty trail and forget to turn the recirculate button on...that dirt just comes right in through the vents lol.

I don’t know a lot about HVAC, so I can’t explain it. I figured when there was a leak the freon escaped and wasn’t pressurized so you got no cold/cool air. Maybe it was just a tiny leak?

Truly appreciate the advice and direction. I can see that I will be tapping you all as a valuable resource. Thanks a lot. If I can figure out how to do it I will post a pic of my 05 Tacoma as part of my profile....thanks again.

    From LawFarin:
    "Condenser was replaced"

You know if my dumbass would read earlier I would have seen this.

    That explains everything.

Condensor. Read back to LawFarin's post. Have that checked. If the condensor has a leak it will still push out cold air, but not in a consistant flow.

At first I was thinking condenser but then figured it was the evaporator core. Was getting a hissing sound every so often. Glad it wasn’t. I was worried about them pulling the entire dash

I have the exact same problem on my 2010 Tacoma. It just started two days ago. My cabin filter is brand new and I couldn’t see it being at a low charge of refrigerant due to I still have cold air coming out of the driver side vent. I am watching your thread for answers. I’ve been told there is a diversion door in the AC box that could be stuck.

Blend doors. Change the setting from hot to cold. If it changes that door is good. Then try it with the location settings. If that works then they are both good. I’ll bet you have a leak
