Not sure if getting the sport instead of the off-road was a bad idea. Opinions

    OP has a 4x2.

    4x4 > 4x2 in the snow.

I don't care what tires, or chains you put on a 4x2. It doesn't equal 4x4 in the snow. Period.

True enough and you can get stuck way further down the trail than you can with 4x2. I find the biggest test in driving in snow is not to get high centered. At that point the shovels come out. I prefer 4x4 but I don't need it often but when I do need it....good tires are a must though otherwise you have just have more tires spinning.

I had a 2 wheel drive truck when I was stationed in Georgia. I PCS'd to Colorado and threw some sand bags over the rear axel and drove with common sense. That worked fine but once I had equity in my truck I then traded it in for a 4x4. Best move ever with all that snow.

I have a friend who's Chevy 4x4 had 4 bald tires last winter. Those pix I put up don't do the snow justice. It was 15+" deep in some parts of town. I did not get stuck in my PreRunner with the Duratracs in the back. He never made it a mile from his house before I got the call.

Tires are the key regardless of how many wheels you have pullin'. A 2WD with great tires will go furthure than a 4x4 with slick tires. Now...a 4x4 with great tires? That's a different story.

I still don't get why guys buy sports over offroads, every dealership I've been to prices them the same. OR gets you better shocks, locking differ, terrain controls. Sport gives you a hood scoop and painted flares.

If jeep priced the wrangler rubicon the same as the wrangler sport model... who the hell would buy the sport model?

I still don't get why guys who have OR's (and never use them to off-road anything significant) give a crap why others make the decision they make to buy whatever truck they like best. Seems like the OR crowd tends to sound off the most about this topic. If all you guys with '16 OR's are so superior lets see what you've done with your OR (and I'm not talking about what yo've done as far as doing stupid little mods like painting your grills in your driveway. I mean, let's see how badass you really are and how many of you have actually done any REAL off-roading with your '16 OR, and not just driving through a mud puddle!) All you big mouths who trash everyone else for having something apparently inferior, here's your chance to show if you're a real badass or not, because I don't hear anyone else with other trim packages trashing the OR guys for buying an overpriced mall crawler that never gets off-road. I'm sure there will be a couple guys, but the overwhelming majority of you won't even off-road your Off-Road.

Do yourself a favor and DON'T buy a Toyota. You'll save yourself a lot of grief and won't have to be associated with all the know-it-all Tacoma bro's that populate this site. As you can see, Toyota Tacoma is synonymous with "internet douchebag". And don't take it personal just because someone got their skirt blown up because you were out living your life and didn't reposed as much, or in the way they thought you should. Dudes here are a bit unreasonable most of the time and get their feelings hurt easily. Guess most of them are just used to getting a trophy or gold start every time they open their mouths.

    all tore up already
i have a sport 4x4 and live in new england. last winter was pretty weak, but i never used 4wd. i even attempted to get stuck offroad in snow on a hill. nope. better off with driving abilities than 4wd. remember 4wd only gets you going faster which isnt always a good thing in snow. reason 90% of vehicles that end up off the road are suvs because people assume it makes them bulletproof but in reality it hurts braking and handling due to extra weight and confidence.

Give the guy a break. Given that he had such a weak, boring, and generic comeback, you have to expect the poor/incorrect grammar from someone like this. He most likely was the kid that was too busy eating paste and making macaroni necklaces when everyone else was learning to read and spell.

We are literally in a thread started about by a TRD Sport owner asking if he should have bought an TRD OR.

You are way too defensive about this.

You chose pretty fenders and fake scoops over other real helpful 4x4 mechanical advantages the OR has for the SAME PRICE... and there is NOTHING WRONG with that. But when someone points out what the OR can do and your response is "MALL CRAWLER, MALL CRAWLER, MALL CRAWLER!"

No one is "trashing" your trim choice, grow the fuck up.

I was able to release the 16 Tacoma's and learn all about them inside and out (used to sell toyota) I can tell you the only way to go on the new Tacoma is the TRD SPORT. The offroad is only good if you are going to be using the crawl control feature A LOT. The Sport will drive WAY BETTER on the road and also it can handle ANYTHING that the Offroad can do. I was able to test drive both on an course and they both performed the same. Like I said before the only thing the Offroad has over the Sport is the Crawl Control Feature/Multi Terrain Select

also, as has been stated many times, if you can drive and you're a good enough owner to keep up with maintenance including replacing tires at a sane, decent interval and things of that nature then you should be equipped to handle just about anything in a taco quite frankly... I drive a TRD sport with michelin street tires and still find driving in snow to be quite fun. Just throw it in 4wd and use plenty of throttle through corners and you'll be fine :burnrubber:
