Im still looking for a tacoma, i like how the 2000's look but i heard in 2005 they addressed the rusty frame problem. Only problem is after 04' they switched to electronic shift into 4wd, id prefer the actual shifter. Ive found numerous 2005's and a couple 2008's that fit what im looking for. Has anyone heard or expirienced any issues with the 2nd-3rd gen tacomas with their 4wd system or misc issues? I plan on keeping the truck for a very long time.

Frame issue was not fixed, there are a lot 2005's to 2008's getting the frames replaced due to same rotting frames

I dont think ill have to worry about not exercising the 4wd, theirs a lot of stateland by my house that ive been taking my current car down. Its a 98 subaru impreza legacy outback or something like that, its got body parts from other subarus on it. But its all wheel drive and ive only been stuck once, i usually use it to pull people out in the winter for extra cash. But i cant go in the deeper water areas with it, and theirs a lot more for me to explore out there.

Get an '88 Toyo (non-Tacoma) with manual hubs :)

It seems to me that the 2001 tacoma is one of the most sought after, but that is just based on observation, and heavy lurking.:pccoffee:

Not all were ADD, there are quite a few first gens with manual everything, hubs and transfer case.

Not real sure, I have a buddy with a 96 he has add, which surprised me, but I have two '00's both with j shift and manual hubs. I've never seen one after 2000 with manual hubs though...

Well as of right now all i can find in my state is a 1994 pickup, 4x4 and is manual. As much as i want a manual, i cant help but lean towards getting a auto for when i go in the trails/mud. I have too many questions to ask i guess but if i may ask one more, what do YOU GUYS prefer for trailing/mud bogging. Auto or Stick? Thanks for all your comments and feedback, youre a very welcoming group.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
It's an easy swap to do. But from what I understand, the ADD setup is actually supposed to be stronger than manual hubs.
