Yup should wait. No one does hybrids better than Toyota. The 465ft-lbs at 1700 rpms will make a Ranger Raptor cry uncle. Having recently owned a Ford truck, the Tacoma will have WAY fewer unscheduled visits to the service department.

I don't believe the op said his desire was to make any particular vehicle cry uncle. The reality is solid state battery tech will make today's latest tech old news, it never ends.

We have owned a 2109 Rav4 hybrid (good) and currently own a 2022 Rav4 hybrid (better). Rented a gasser Rav4 last week (not good). IMO there will be no going back to a gasser Tacoma after you've driven the electrified version. Better performance and better efficiency hands down.

I would have thought the way tech advances the 2109 would've been far superior than the 2022.

I’d go with the straight ICE instead of the Hybrid if I was buying one. When that hybrid’s high voltage battery fails, insurance usually totals the vehicle because of the cost of replacing the high voltage battery.

This is not true, and definitely won’t be true in the case of a 1.8kWh battery.

IDK, I work at Toyota, I’ve seen plenty of Priuses and other hybrids get totaled or the customer have to trade it in due to a failed high voltage battery. Although if the new Tacoma’s battery is like you say it is, hopefully a failed hv battery on one won’t total it.

EDIT: I remember from our training that the hv battery on the 4th gen Tacoma is under the rear seat, you’re right, the labor bill to do an HV battery on a 4th gen Tacoma probably wouldn’t be as bad to do on something like a Prius or a RAV.

Prius battery is only $1800 or so now. Batteries have come way down. Hybrid batteries also last 10+ years easily so it's really not a consideration. The space it takes under the rear seat of the Tacoma is probably what should be your biggest consideration to be honest. That and the huge premium dealers will extract from you for it. I just don't see it being worth it in the Tacoma unless it can magically boost you to 30mpg (which it definitely won't as that is not it's focus). And note I'm a huge hybrid fan. Love Evs also but in that is case for now Gas Tacoma is where it's at.

I'm averaging 21.5 on my G3 right now on winter blend, so the uptick in MPG with the G4 is negligible. My guess is that if you test drove the hybrid and gasser side-by-side you would not hesitate to get the hybrid. That certainly has been the case with our Rav4.

Well, that would be the case if you could actually buy one from a dealer any only pay the MSRP increase of the hybrid. Reality is going to be just like with the Grand Highlander where there are few hybrids and they are going to screw you over for them making them such a bad deal you won't bother unless you like being raped. Plus you need to understand this is not like Rav4 in that Rav4 has what I consider to be an unattractive hybrid. These are a "max" version so it will be there for power instead of efficiency and hence yeah, it would be nice, but not at a 10k premium which is what the dealers are going to do to you. I mean maybe it will magically get produced in large numbers unlike the Grand Highlander and hybrids will be plentiful but I doubt it. Also, given the gas version seems to produce such good power I'd have to consider if the hybrid added enough to the driving experience for me to be worth losing the under-seat storage. Probably given the additional value of the 1500W AC power instead of 400W but maybe not.

would be a nonissue for me as I would go manual > hybrid and too bad you can't have both.

Hey, I'm new around here and technically my new Taco is not yet in my hands and is still being made down in the Tijuana facility but I'd like to at least explain myself and why I opted to buy the standard ICE version. A bit of background, I already have a 21' hybrid RAV4 which gets me 41mpg around town. I'm going to do my best to bullet point out the positives/minuses with as little bias as I can, also includes assumptions/unverified info.
I'll start with the Hybrid -
    • More POWER to tow, to get up and go, to carry more weight and not feel sluggish
    • Regenerative breaking greatly increases disk break life
    • tailgate outlet is 2400w versus 400w in the standard ICE version
    • Less mechanical parts and more electronic parts in the engine bay
    • Top trims are only available with the hybrid power train
    Standard ICE Version -
    • Simplified engine bay (see standard, no risk of accidentally electrocuting yourself with the high voltage wiring)
    • extra storage under the rear seat
I chose not to include MPG as a bonus for the Hybrid, because based on what we see with the Tundra and also what I was told by a rep with Toyota, the hybrid isn't really there to increase MPG as much as it's there to assist with carrying bigger loads/towing. That said, as someone who has owned both the standard ICE and hybrid RAV4, the MPG increase was 30mpg to 41mpg.... if we were seeing fuel savings like that, I'd wait. Second, someone in their RAV4 recently got stuck in a puddle that was deeper than they expected, if I had to guess, maybe 16" of water give or take... it was just deep enough for water to have gotten up into the battery causing the vehicle to hydro lock, with a $10,000 bill to replace the battery and fix the damage. I've personally taken my RAV4 to trailheads where no one told me I'd be driving across waterways and being 45 miles in with no way to turn around, had to do the best I could and just move forward, thankfully I was able to make it out without my RAV4 having any issues. That's the kind of stuff I do though, and I don't want to have to be worried that my TRD off-road is going to potentially get damaged by passing through a decently deep water way that otherwise would not impact a standard ICE version. I love my Hybrid RAV4, if the differences between the ICE Tacoma and hybrid Tacoma are that black and white like they were with the RAV, I'll wait a couple years and trade up just like I did with my RAV4.

Cleared cookies used multiple browsers, yet the configurator still not working, its not a error, Toyota site itself is saying its down, and its been down for more than a week now. Probably still figuring out how to a package with a bluetooth speaker and fridge for ten thousand dollars.

No I meant the configurator for the Land Cruiser. I'm pretty intimate with the Taco one, even though i'm not getting the truck lol.

Strange, I thought it was my location, and it works on my phone, but not on the desktop.
