I’m on my 4th Toyota truck, owning since 1983 and the only problem I have had, is to replace the starter in my 2nd gen. Other than that, nada. Here’s what I have always done.

    1) Buy new, why? You avoid buying someone else’s problem.
    2) Do your own maintenance. Why? It’s easy, cheap and rewarding, plus I don’t want people messing with my stuff.

3). Sell before there’s 100k on the clock. Why? Better resell value, little shit starts needing replaced.

For me it’s just time to move on. Plus I have the money to do this because I haven’t spent it on extended warranties or repairs or dealer maintenance. Everything breaks and needs repaired or replaced eventually, so this is what works for me.

The grass isn't always greener on the other side, ide fix it and keep it imo. Or I guess buy a new truck with extended warranty, cause lord knows you will need it if you buy from the big three.

I'm the guy buying vehicles with 90k miles for pennies on the dollar and driving them through 300k. I appreciate you offloading when you do.

    Yeah.
My 2012 had 90K on it when I traded it, only thing to go wrong was the center support bearing (not the bearing, but the rubber surround). I didn't rag on it, but I did use it like a truck. That sounds like a lot of suspension issues for the miles, something ain't right. Almost sounds like they constantly drove it around in 4WD on pavement.

I fail to see what the low mileage has to do with anything. This truck was possibly lifted by a previous owner or lessee ,possibly a young owner, and could have been used on or off road in any stupid manner as we read here so often. If it runs well and has no major engine, transmission or drive train issues I'd fix it, service it and use it. I would know what I had at that point. The bigger question is why everything went wrong soon after inspection by two (?) shops? Maybe they missed wear and damage assuming it was in good shape given the mileage. My truck is a '13 with 61k on it. That's about 10k per year over crumby roads , salty air and snowy, salted roads. I have no such wear at all, it drives like new. There is no reason (other than lack of money) why this truck can't be fixed and be reliable unless it was beaten to near death in which case there should have been clues. Up until '98 every vehicle I bought had about 100,000 miles when I bought it. Aside from maintenance and wear items they were all pretty reliable. Modern cars are not ready for the junk yard at 90,000 miles like they were in the past. Good maintenance, started at any point, pays big dividends over time. I will say though that a "certified pre-owned car" should be inspected thoroughly using the check list they use. With this "program"you can be lulled into a false sense of security and dealers cut corners severely there in my experience. Luckily they made good on it.

I just saw a '15 Silverado pickup on a Chevy dealer lot for sale. The frame was rusted very badly for its age and the black factory "rubber like" frame coating was peeling off leaving scalely rust
over most of the back of the frame. They previous owner probably launched a boat into salt water often. That means brakes, exhaust, frame, brake lines and who knows what else has been compromised. I've seen guys back in up to the rear wheel hubs and more to launch at low tide or on a shallow ramp. You really have to be careful with a truck/suv or a sports car for that matter.

I hope it works out for the O/P.

Anyone that was asking about buying my truck and where I’m located, just hold off for a bit because I’m still considering my options. If I were to sell this thing I’d be looking at something with similar value, the problem being that trucks from other companies might give me more headaches than this Toyota will over the long run. I’m going to be looking at cars too... My buddy that works at Honda said he could straight trade me a brand new 2019 Civic Si for my truck... that being said it’s a truck vs. A car. However I do have access to other trucks through family if need be. Just trying to figure out what’s going to work best in the long run for me

Mostly sounds like easy wear repairs. Look at the bright side, you haven’t had any engine or transmission problems. Which is what really matters. I bought a 2013 a few months ago. So far I’ve replaced Shock, UCAs, LCAs, steering rack with inner and outer tie rods, wheel hubs, leaf packs, brake lines, needle bearing, and sway bar bushings, spark plugs, air filters. (Some stuff was mostly preventative). Not including the lift, I only spent around 800 replacing all of that. And now I consider it a perfectly fine vehicle. I think you’re good with what you have and what you replaced

I have a real hard time believing all these items shit the bed all within that time period. Suggests one or both of the pre-inspections you had done were pretty sketchy. Sounds like that truck was rode hard & put away wet, often. Plus side, you got her back in spec. Give it a chance, your in wallet deep now anyways. Might turn out to be a fine Taco as most seem to be. Good luck.

It really sounds like it could have been a flood vehicle. Damage from sitting in water for days causes a lot of issues that may not be immediately noticeable but it will show up down the road.

The water doesn't have to get high enough to intrude into the cab area for damage to occur and it's much easier to hide water damage if it doesn't reach that high.
