i call BS..... that list seems like something the service writer used to give my wife when she'd go into the dealership alone..... they used to mark that she was due for brakes when she had 1/4" of pad left, and she would come home freaking out like her car was about to explode.... I simply told her just have them itemize the list and tell them you need to "talk to her husband about it" and get back to them.... they soon became less forceful in trying to persuade her to make the "in the moment" decision to let them do all "recommended" services..... having some mechanical background helps weed thru a lot of BS when dealing with dealerships or simply get a 2nd opinion, you be surprised how different the results could be....

btw, you own one of the most reliable vehicles on earth.... even if you had to change out everything on the list it would still outlast most vehicles on the road.....

BINGO! Sadly, Ford, Chevy, and Dodge have all gone to hell. They can't even make an interior that hangs together till the transmission goes out. Don't even get me started about engines and transmissions. Hell, Ford can't even make the spark plugs stay in the motor.

I'm also in the "sounds like the service writer was trying to get his bonus" camp since OP has ignored all the questions about who & where condemned his laundry list of parts.

I mean, OK, everything but the ball joints could conceivably go out in 2k... bearings & seals don't always go gradually, and any of the wheel bearings could've been going out but not bad enough to notice. Shocks could seem just fine and then spleeech, all the oil has spewed out.

But ball joints don't just go from good to shot that quick. And the odds of all those other things going out, in the span of 2000 miles from being supposedly checked out and all at about the same time, is pretty slim. So I'd say either 2 places that checked it out for you both did a really bad job, or (more likely IMO) someone went for the 60k wallet flush.

So uncommon to have those issues. My 09 with 92k on it has never had a single problem.

Used trucks can be great buys. Not always, but some due diligence and a good inspection improve your chances of paying half price or less for a truck that has years of good service left in it. Maybe I have been lucky but I have bought 3 used trucks in my life (2 Fords and my current 2012 Taco) and all have been great.

I bought my 2006 X-Runner with 120,000 miles on it. I am the third owner. I picked it up for 10k and had to put 5k into it because the second owner had a personal friend work on it.

The suspension was shot, the gas tank had a crack, the pulleys needed to be replaced as well as the radiator and charcoal canister. That was a pretty penny.

I replaced the oxygen sensors, valves, hoses, bought a smoke machine, OBD software, to help me diagnose problems to save on parts and labor. Thank god for RockAuto, and TacomaWorld for being a literal gold mine of information.

I have learned a lot, and I will take that forward.

Hopefully you can work on it if you like that kind of stuff.

Got mine at 91k from the rust belt and your list makes me happy. In 22k since then I've only got:

Loose power steering hoses from shoddy used car dealer install
    Lower ball joints
    Front bearings
    Serpentine belt

Any chance the mechanic at the shop that told you about the laundry list of issues looked like this:

I got my 2006 in 2009 (3 years old) with 40,000 miles. Paid $16,000 out the door. I was told that the original owner used it to run restaurant supplies around San Francisco.
I've now had it for almost 10 years and over 110,000 miles. Other than normal wear items, the only thing it's needed is a water pump. But also it lives a pretty easy life... garaged, and most of the time I don't drive it very hard, keep on top of all maintenance. For the last 25k I've been running extended OCI (8k) using synthetic, no problems.

That fella looks trustworthy... his employment options are rather limited, if he's turning a wrench, he might just be good at it!

The ones to really watch are them well-dressed service writers, especially if they're wearing slacks and a tie... I deal with them every day at work, and a solid 80% don't know more than Joe off the street about vehicles, let alone fixing them, they're SALESMEN. Sell, sell, sell... sir, were you aware that Monroe, the largest shock absorber manufacturer in the world, recommends replacing your shock absorbers every 50,000 miles? They're the largest shock absorber manufacturer in the world, who would know better than them?

We're not talking about health insurance. We're discussing the cost of a vehicle. I thought that was evident/assumed given the context of this thread on this forum. Guess not...
