Like I said, Thank you all for the great answer and comments. Realistic! Truck on fire! It take you 2sec. To think “I need to get out now! It takes 2sec. To pull your door handle to get out and it’s doesn’t SHIT! open ! It takes two sec. to remember I have to pull the tap up over my right shoulder! And don’t forget to tell your passenger too! There is no right answer....I guess shit can happen anytime

When I first read this I thought you were talking about how you can't open the door from the inside at all if it is locked. Something like this happened to my brother ant I growing up. My dad had a '92 5 series BMW and we were acting all rowdy in the back one day (as usual, lol), and when w got home, he got out he locked the doors with the remote and walked inside the house. As it turned out, if you lock the door with the keyfob, you CANNOT unlock it, even though it had the manual locks. We were literally STUCK inside. We were in there over an hour and had started trying to escape through the trunk thru the passage way meant for skis of use an emergency tool to manually crank open the sunroof. Eventually my dad came out only because he started wondering what we were doing out there.

Obviously this is a safety issue and as far as I know not a thing anymore.

But that's not what it seems you're talking about.

The whole point of not being able to open the door with the handle from the inside when locked is to prevent things like accidentally opening the door while driving.

Some people might think it's to prevent car jacking or whatever, but it's really not. How many members have had an (attempted) car jacking vs. how many have accidentally (or purposefully, lol) pulled on the handle while driving. Rear doors have the child lock system that, if selected, means you can't open the door from the inside, even if it is unlocked so as to keep your little crumb snatchers from opening the door going down the highway.

With these older trucks, it should be pretty instinctual to at least try to unlock if the door doesn't open. Or just don't lock the doors when you're driving if the idea of not being able to unlock them frightens you.
