The lows sound better because the highs don't interfere/overlap with the low frequency.

    The science:

The factory "tweeters" have a large frequency range... which is not great because the tweeter tries to produce low/mid notes.
The new real tweeters have a more defined higher end range. So when the tweeter receives low notes, it filters(with the capacitor that is attached)
    out the low frequencies.
Since the new tweeters are not trying to produce low notes, the actual tweeter only moves at high frequencies as music plays. This means
that it doesn't interfere with the low notes.

The door speakers now produce better low notes because of two reasons. One, new tweeters use less energy to only produce high notes and two, the only bass that is being produced is by the same set of true low frequency speakers and most likely the same speaker coil diameter in the back and rear doors.

    My two cents:
I've installed several sound systems and I agree with most users here.
The stock stereo actually sounds pretty good...(Premium Audio, TRD Sport DC)
But eventually, the shitty stock speakers are going
to get replaced. Starting with the tweeters.

Like any audiophile, we really do wish that some vehicles were sold with no stereo whatsoever just a blank double din slate and good speaker wires to all the door panels.

Yeah I agree Oldman808, I don't trust factory sound systems at all, and its why I don't go for their high end setups as they usually come way short of ecstasy for all the $$ spent.

But at least I found out the HU is not as big a bottle neck as I expected, and if I was smart I'd stop right here because I'm very happy with the sound. Or maybe I'll just do the door speakers and see if it gets any better, but once you go down this road, it leads to yet another money pit, ay!

That makes more sense, and I agree on the HU not being bad at all, I may keep it till it becomes obsolete by the next best and greatest tech that replaces Bluetooth, or maybe 3D Bird view who knows, but I best try and hold out till then lol!

    Cheers!

I don't know if you guys have looked into this yet, but one of the biggest bang for the buck stereo mods in a taco is sound and vibration deadening. I put foam speaker cones behind each door speaker, a 10x10 mat of foam behind each subwoofer inside the enclosure, as well as dynamat superlite and dynamat acoustic foam in all 4 doors. Made a HUGE difference in speaker clarity with my aftermarket door speakers and amp, probably a bigger upgrade then installing the door speakers and amp to begin with! Also putting foam behind your subs is night and day difference. It will be quieter after but when you turn up the amp there's WAY less distortion and you get such clean hits. In my case I had plenty of extra volume to go, my subs used to start hitting my seat back at anything over 5 gain, now I can run the amp at 7 gain and get better sound quality than before
