I'll have to look into this. I wonder if radios might pick up noise when things are added between the radio and the power supply. That's why mine is wired straight to the battery, both pos and neg. CB draw so little current too, where they are limited to 4 watts output. A 2m radio can easily do more than 50 watts out of a truck though!

The inductor in the relay might if it's close to the CB but should be fine. You'd get interference from your radio or numerous other electronics first I'd think.

I was thinking Truro......LOL.... The closer to NB the more likely I can run down and back. Going to be in Halifax over March Break. Normally we would head to NH to shop but at 30+% I can't see that happening.

We will definitely have to meet up over March break then! I think yours is the week before ours.

Some noise comes through the power lines too. It seems that the battery can absorb a lot of that. No very technical, I know. I need to read up so I can take the test for a HAM license.

Anyone with an examiner's certification can give you the test. There is a club around here that meets Saturday mornings at the provincial EMO, they would be the first place I'll look. Let me know if you want me to hunt them down for you.

I think we should all get amateur radios, so much cooler than CB.

Sorry was making a joke. What is a HAM license in all seriousness? Speaking of this I need to do my first aid/CPR AED re-certs...

There are four bands set aside world-wide for "amateur" radio use. The idea is that radio geeks will get all set up with their radios and then if for some reason a situation arises where normal communications are down the amateur radio folks can step up and assist. It's called HAM, but I can't remember exactly what that stands for. Natural disasters are mostly what people had in mind. This goes way back I don't know how far, but pretty much back to when two way radio was starting to take off. The CB, or "citizen's band" does not require a license to use, but is restricted to 4 watts of broadcast power. It is really popular because you don't need training or a license. If things are really working out well for you, you can get about 10km range with CB, I think. If the atmospheric conditions are really good, you can use the skip to go way farther, but that is really hit or miss. With HAM some people can talk halfway across the country. I don't know exactly what is involved in that, but I do know that with a tiny handheld set on the two meter band you can reach someone anywhere you are in Nova Scotia (and I have been about as remote as you can get). A 2m set in your truck is about the size of Mitch's CB and can put out between 50 and 75 watts. The 1/4 wavelength antennae is about a foot and a half long.

I want a 2m to arrange link ups for when I am coming out of the woods on a canoe trip in the middle of nowhere and want someone with a roofrack to pick me and my gear up, or to be on the picking up end for some of my like minded friends. BTW, that kind of canoe tripping is what I bought my truck to support.

HAM radio is becoming more of a "thing" these days amoung 4x4 clubs that I move around with. FJNortheasters has a small percentage of users but clubs like Gotham City Land Cruisers is HAM heavy. I have seen them reach out 10-15 miles with ease where a CB is doing well to do half a mile. Line of sight is the best gauge of my CB. If I can see you I can probably talk to you.

I won this at a run a few years ago....works great for what I use it for [IMG]

    Any shake on the road?

I am trying this bracket I ordered from JB's Power Center in Calgary (free shipping) ( https://www.jbspowercentre.com) on my CRV. Headlights on a 2006 CRV are the worst thing ever. So this bracket and a ten inch slimline LED should help. But yeah I am worried about it shaking.

I don't notice any. The pods are too bight to drive with in traffic and on the road though.. I get highbeamed all the time because of my headlights when they're on low beam, I could only imagine what would happen with these!

They're mounted in 1/8th inch plate and then the plate is seam sealed and bolted to the rest of the grille. They're in there snug!

    They're mall crawlers anyway.

So, got back from Cuba last night, took a tour to Moron while i was there. Run down town, 2 sweet looking Hiluxs, just parked on the side of the road, no one understood my excitement :(
