I used to work at Wajax Industrial in Burnside, I know that they sell bevel/miter gears. Also you could try Motion Canada or Canadian Bearings. They are all in Burnside. Any of them should be able to help you out.

So, I am in the middle of what looks like a week-long project to replace my lower ball joints, juggling that with minding the kids and making suppers and bedtimes and all that. The truck is pulled apart in the driveway, and every day now after work I try a new ball joint adapter in hopes it will fit, so far none have. Last night I noticed that the castle nut for my right tie rod end is missing. So now I have to figure out how to ask my two year old son (who doesn't talk yet) where he put it. He has been loading sockets into his Tonka dump truck and delivering them all over the driveway whenever I get the tools out, I'm guessing the nut got mixed in somehow... it is probably within a 300 metre radius, and my have been buried in the flower beds.

    I feel your pain,
if you need a large magnet on a string let me know :) I've had to do this for some missing nuts/bolts recently. My 2yr old loves "helping". I'm very interested in your quest for ball joint adapters, I may have to do this before winter myself.

do you have a decent air compressor? I have a air hammer that *may* be of use to remove the balljoint.

Lets discuss the job over coffee once I get it done. I should clarify that the actual time it takes to do this if you start with all the tools, work straight through, and don't spend 80% of the time checking to see if your kids are getting run over on the street, is really quite reasonable.

My first set of balljoints took me roughly 3 hours to do, it really helps not having a 2 year old to chase after!

@Canoehead I have the BJ press in my truck, it's ready and waiting for you!

I also have the custom cup made SPECIALLY for Taco BJ's for you!

@D2. As for the air hammer, that would come in handy for tapping the outside of the ball joint holy thing in the control arm once you have tension on the ball joint. And you've heated the balls off it.
If you plan on doing your ball joints before winter I suggest you start soaking the tops of the ball joints in penetrating fluid or ATF soon, it'll make your life much easier.

I can normally eyeball the size so no need for that ;)

When I had the Lexus tranny out over the winter I had an easy install. I had my trays labeled and everything went smoothly. even after 4-5 months.

My nephew is looking for a standard truck, like a first gen taco, or a Mazda/Ranger. I am pretty sure yours is out of his price range though, 2nd gens seem to climbing in price!

Yeah, I remember when I was replacing my 99, I was looking at 2008-2010 used ones, and they were rusted to shit underneath, and they were still asking 24-28k for them. Also the interest rate on used ones was something like 4.5%. I decided then, that buying a new one was the better option for me.

Finally got the lower ball joints done today! Truck is all back together and back on the road. The ball joints were really gone, tons of vertical play.

Also, I found the missing castle nut for the tie rod end in my tool bag. So my little guy's name is cleared! I looked through that bag 3 or 4 times and didn't see it. Ordered the nut from Toyota, they brought in the wrong one... got the right one ordered (it comes in tomorrow) and all this time I had it safely packed away.

If anyone is doing lower ball joints, a word of advice: after market LBJs have a larger diameter flange than stock ones. I couldn't find an adapter to fit over it, so I got a piece of 2 5/8" inside diameter tube cut (2 1/4" long) and used that. It was a little loose and would slide up around the LCA, so I smashed it with the big hammer to knock it out of round until came tight.

Moog LBJs are a little smaller than the ones I just removed, 2.5" ID tube will fit over them. I think Moog will be much easier to remove when the time comes.

Thank you @TacoMitch93 for your advice and ball joint press!

My truck has a small engine squeal that comes and goes when its first started. Dealership took the belt off and checked it when I got an oil change and checked all the pullys and said everything is fine. Of course it wasnt squealing when I had it in there so it was hard to explain to them. Anyone have a good idea what it could be? Im not selling the truck until I have it dealt with so Im looking for options or opinions

Is the belt worn at all? I'm assuming it's only on cold start up eh? I don't think serp belts are overly expensive. Might be worth it to toss a new one on and see if the noise goes away.
