Hey guys, new Taco owner and new to TW, living in NS and just bought a 1st gen.

I am trying to do most of the maintenance myself but wondering if you guys have any suggestions for a reliable garage to go to? I will definitely be needing some major suspension replaced soon and my timing done, thinking timing might be best at the dealer?

Any thoughts/advice would be much appreciated, thanks!

Also re: squeaky belt, I had all 3 serp belts of mine done (200$) when i bought the truck and that solved my squeak problem!

Welcome to Tacomaworld, and congratulations on your new truck!

Are you in the Halifax area? I know a mechanic I trust, but I am not sure who out there is an expert on our engines.

Maybe you could bring your truck out for coffee sometime?

My belt squeaks as well on cold damp mornings, I've been told a belt change should fix it, but i'v been too lazy to try

I wouldn't hear my belt squeak over the release bearing.

Congrats on the new to you truck Andhickman! Nice! Suspension will not be easy but the rear shocks are easy to change. Rear leaf springs are probably seized on the hangers. They can be changed. I think there is a shop in Halifax that can install new leafs for you or re-arch your old ones, just cannot remember the name of the shop. Sorry. The front ones are usually easy if you buy the whole assembly, struts and coils together. Just basically unbolt old and bolt on new. If I remember the name of the shop I will let you know. Again congrats.

I had my leafs done at Provincial Springs, on St. Albans St., off Robie. Re-arched and added a helper.

Hey guys, I am in HRM and would be happy to come out for coffee and talk trucks sometime.

As for the comments re: suspension, thanks for all the input! I actually lucked out with my truck as it had the frame replaced a year ago, which included the leafs. I've been meaning to contact the dealer that did it to get a full record of what is new vs not so I can really try and dive into the problem which seems to be front only.

On another note is anyone part of the CFB auto club in Windsor Park? Seems like great value and a nice place to do work over the winter.

I am a member at the base auto club. They have a coil spring compressor for your front suspension there.

alright, Dumb question of the day,
what buttons on the lower dash ( left of steering wheel ) are supposed to light up at night?

I've had my lower dash off for what feels like 6 months doing various wiring projects, and just put it back on last night, connecting the Traction control, clutch cancel, and RSCA. besides the light on the clutch cancel that turns on when you press it, are the other two supposed to light up when you turn on your headlights?

How much do you want for the tail lights? I'm assuming they're the same as the 09+
