Yea... I have been following this whole fiasco since before labour day weekend. Shit situation in all viewpoints. I am a pessimist for the most part so I look at it under malpractice on pelfrey's behalf but I have no history or knowledge on running a business and it could very well be a series of unfortunate events!

The shittest part about this whole thing is the people who placed orders and already paid in full for their orders , to get their money back it’s probably going to be a shit show

Also this happened on Friday after work... I had the kayak in the back of the truck with the tailgate down, and... backed into a pole... :yay:

Probably won't go through insurance. Probably will live with it at this point. Anyone have a nice mgm tailgate for cheap?

I'm planning to bend my gate straight, reinforce with square tube, paint the whole thing flat black or even rocket guard.

A different look from MGM, but...

nope, but will be on the island from Thursday to sunday this week.

Boo-urns! I hate to see a business go down, one less option for off road goodies:(

oh no! that has to be one of my biggest fears, accidentally backing into something. Esp since there is no cool story.

I've been busy ( in a round about kind of way )
@TacoMitch93 and I did a clutch job in my driveway early august, no real pics of the swap, but here is the old clutch with 390K on it.

Flywheel - A few hot spots.
    CM8-S9zCRMhL1e9tWTdX1SfVli6R1DIjhFhBNZ8p_4722c91d581d698a4637db6cc6e9454dcbe17bc9.jpg

Clutch - still had a bit a friction material left.

Pressure plate - a few hot spots ( and bent fingers )

Clutch is a LC Engineering stage 1 clutch, double the factory clamping force. and I had Nova Automotive do the re-surfacing of the flywheel, cost about $105, and had it back in 4.5hrs same day.

Next up is the attempt at removing the passenger side LBJ, Massive failure on my end. Messed around with it for a full day ( during Oliver's naps ) called it quits at 4:30 and put it back together, this is as far as I got
    llB6tnJNqAmuNCqj-aLXaHx-CXfbtGQxdvtSNGT2_78682e645c865f97268e9a6d22dedd9a75f80400.jpg

with the big BJ press cranked down hard ( with the wrong adapter.... more on that later ) I managed to sneak a hammer onto the edge of the BJ and give it a wack ( double hammer method ) it moved the BJ so that the top shoulder of the BJ was flush with the LCA, but that's it. To get that far I had to make my own adapter for the adapter... I drilled out three 2.5" holes in 1/8" plate, then cut those out so they would fit under the BJ while giving me a bigger surface area to use the cup that came with the BJ removal kit so kindly loaned from @Canoehead I stacked up 3 of my plates, then put the "too big" adapter on to press it out. as mentioned before, this worked..... to a point. when the BJ was flush with the LCA I noticed that my own home made adapters were destroyed and could not be re-used. the metal deformed pretty bad and streached out the hole. Running out of time, and honestly being frustrated with he whole thing I called it quits, pressed it back in and re-assembled the rest.

I have a new game plan. @Canoehead to the rescue once more. I told him of my woe's and he said " I got the stuff that you need...." he loaned me all his custom adapters he used for his BJ's and with this I ran to the metal store. ( FYI, Metal supermarket in burnside is open on saturday, and if you ask nicely they'll let you walk into the shop and look at the off cut rack  ) with a BJ in hand I literally went and started test fitting all the different pipe/tube I could find and found one that was just about perfect, only the inner seam was in the way. a dremel with a sanding drum made quick work of that, and now I have my adapter. I have no doubt I will destroy it in the process, but I don't care. I bough the whole thing ( 24" ) and made two adapters, then kept the rest for next time ( or your next time, buy me a beer, and I'll cut you off one ;) )

The other thing iv'e been bashing my head against is trying to make a 1 3/4" tube bending die. cheapest I can find is $234USD shipped. who knows what customs will be. I've been messing with fusion 360 CAD software to get the profile and stuff, but still having a hard time getting what's in my head onto the screen in such a way a CNC Plasma cutter can do the job. ah well, its all part of learning right?

Speaking of bending. check out all the steel I bought to build the bender! I have the plans already, and the 20T bottle jack, just need that dang tube bending die!:annoyed:

At least I found a new play pen for the littlest one.

That sucks and disclaimer I’ve never done this with a Tacoma, so I’m not sure what the end result might be…

But I believe the second gens have quite a bit of room once the tailgates inner panel is off, you might be able to get two pieces of square stock and basically just sandwich the top of the tailgate. Then take some big C-clamps and try to flatten it out again… It wouldn’t “fix it” but might take some of the crease out of the top for the time being.

can confirm, its pretty hollow in there. lots of room to try and bend it back if you wanted to. She's screwed up now, so might as well try!

there is pretty much nothing between the plastic skin on the back and the sheet metal. A few wires if you have the backup cam, that's about it.
let me know if you want to borrow my body hammers, comes with some dollies and various shaped hammers ( cheap set from Princess Auto )

    :ohsnap:
I think I just did it.... I've been futzing around for over 2 weeks, it may not look like much, but to me, its a major victory!
Quick summary behind my idea for a 1 3/4" tube bending die
Take 2" .120 wall DOM and have it bent 180 degrees ( 2" .120 DOM has an ID of 1.75" ). Then take 1/8" plate and fill in the middle to give it support. but to do that, I need to have some one cut some semi-circles out at different radi ( radiuses? )

Pic 1 - Getting there, Finally figured out how to draw on 2 planes at the same time. More on that in the 2nd pic. but you can see how each line is a different length depending on how far up the circle you go.
    yKU_vgp482gh7OTxSq-oxJdZmxejsTWMMNgumHS__5e2c8ffde8efa3a86f2e94486b48ad73a99136d4.jpg

Pic 2 - you can see where i'm going here. the circle is on the vertical plane, and the arc's are on the horizontal plane. Now I just need to finish the arc's and make them semi-circles, add a little glitz.....

    C4e8FFLY7g7zsGiiyZ6S9BFBeK67ibsSd16bPgCZ_3deb09fc9c8e5e357911e6da0c645fedd8012331.jpg

    Pic 3 - BAM!
I only bothered to draw up 1/2 of the plates since the other ones will be identical, I'll just get the plasma cutter person to cut the stuff out 2x. I do plan on adding some offset slots on the plates so I can weld them together, and also I need a pivot pin, but this is good enough for tonight. those two things should be easy peasy....... ( famous last words )

You could probably get away with fewer plates in the center. More than like just a single thick center plate, add a few gussets on it, and probably end up with something plenty strong.

Yea I had the skin off a few times (installing back up cam, and fluid filming things every fall) and I will more than likely attempt a smoothening of the ripple. I like the flat steel/clamp method, should bring it out nicely

I might take you up on that offer some day I can look at the damage and not get a little sour hahah I am going to paint pen in the scratches and chipped paint so it won't rust out on me, then fix it one of these days.

That pipe bender is going to come out very nice! I wanted to buy a pipe bender at one point but they are a little too rich for my blood with all that I want to do with it. I want to build a hybrid front and rear bumper, maybe sliders too.
Now that the truck isn't a show truck anymore I might as well get it trail ready haha
