Got home from work last night and found the cat in the basement drinking water, by the boiler, that shouldn't be there. :(

There's a plate on the side where the domestic coil goes through, with a stud/bolt set up, weeping from the bottom. NBD, I'll snug up the bolt right? Jk, it broke off, didnt even take any torque. Guess that's what happens when your boiler is from '77.

Then the leak got much much bigger. Had to isolate the boiler and drain the tank. The one time my power engineering ticket paid off outside of work :D

For future reference, if anyone ever needs to drain their boiler. Make sure, aside from isolating the hot water heating system (as long as the domestic coil isn't leaking it's not as critical) you shut the burner off BEFORE you drain it. As the water leaves the drum, itll drop in temp, causing the burner to turn on, with no water in there you can cause a melt down which wouldn't be pretty. Basically how boiler explosions happen, although, home heating boilers are atmospheric, you'd just make a giant mess, rather than explode.

Happy holidays if I don't see you guys between now and the new year! :)

Yes, that's the plan. I want to get off of oil completely.

I'm probably going to fix the boiler and limp through the rest of this heating season though, I've got 750 liters of oil to go through still. Only question is... What's going to break next!

I found out that the nearest Toyota flywheel bolts for a 1GR-FE are in Toronto and there are only four there. There are four more in Vancouver. The flywheel takes eight. While I have the feeling there must be other sources, I am still postponing my clutch job until after Christmas, probably the first week in Jan. And by then I'll have new bolts for the flyheel.

Now the winch mount job has to move up...

Are those Toyota OEM bolts or ARP replacements?

ARP may be cheaper (and possibly better) and easier to find, if you haven't ordered your new bolts already.

Is this really what adulting is like? Just wondering what's going to break next and how you're going to fix it?

Boy this was a lot less stressful when the only thing I owned was a truck and a car :D

I think I'm starting to get some of this stuff figured out... Remembering to buy groceries, and knowing what to buy is probably throwing me through the biggest loop..

Even your cat is helping to contain the leak. You have a well disciplined household!

I should have done that. It didn't seem possible to me that O'Reagans could be in a parts supply situation that renders them unable to do a clutch job within a week. My timeline is now influenced by some other things, so I'll do the job somewhere in the 2 to 4 Jan timeframe. And I'll probably drive back in the woods before then if I get an opportunity, and take my chances!

This is exactly what Adulting is.
its putting up the Christmas lights, freezing your fingers off up on a snowy roof only to find that a :censored: rodent decided to eat through your bloody practically brand new ridge vent!
its having a flash thaw and 50mm of rain that floods your basement during Christmas so you have to use your time off to rip up the laminate, wash, dry and re-install the entire basement.
its finding a live bird that stuck in your fireplace chimney, then googling how to get it out ( Pro tip, flashlight in a box, Birds are attracted to this some how, and the bugger jumped down in it, I slid a piece of wood over the top and released it back outside )

but on the flip side, I like my neighborhood and neighbors. The garage is a pretty sweet workshop ( getting sweeter day by day ) and the house is in pretty good shape. Plus I can sell it and hopefully make a few $$ when I'm ready for a retirement home.

it is what it is. Right now, I'd rather own a house with all its headache's then rent. Renting was perfect while I was younger, but I got too much junk now to go back

I've got a major problem I need some NSBS Thread help with.
The Boss gave( I earned ) me a bonus this year, and my wife flat out said "neat! so what truck stuff are you going to buy with it!?....":D

sooo, What could I do with roughly $550?

    I'm already thinking Plasma Cutter....
the other thing is once @Canoehead and I get our respective butt's in order ( read: I get my garage cleaned up a bit more ) we'll be building that tube bender, and part of me is saying " keep the money because if this is a failure then you can buy a bender...."

anyone have any good ideas? Cool Mods?

If plasma cutter in on the list, stop there!

But if you MUST consider other options, why don't you get a winch?
