So I'm not a "racer" by any stretch, never had a fast car, or motorcycle, and i'm not knocking those who like a "spirited ride" i've been known to take a corner or two a bit faster then the posted limit a time or two....

back when pro cycle was on windmill, they had a test ride day, Wanting to switch things up, I took a GS500F out. Full faring ( that was trippy, having the headlight and faring stay put while I was steering ) anyhow, they eventually led us to an onramp. everyone was backing off, then rolling hard up the ramp, so I did the same. up to this point my past bike experience was a yamaha xs400, and maybe a few 7 - 900 cc cruisers on test rides. Man oh man, I had it in 2nd, and it just pulled the whole time, screamed its way up to 130 in a snap of the fingers. I wasn't expecting it to be so snappy! I remember when she hit the power band, i slid back in the seat a bit and white knuckled the rest, lol.

I know the 500f isn't a monster, but compared to what I was used it, it might as well been.

    good times.

the only thing bad about a test ride is when I get back on my bike, she feels old, slow and clapped out.

some days I wish I stuck to my plan, Pay off my car, then go and buy my dream bike. the plan was that I'd buy a small car, new off the lot. Spend the 5 years paying it off, then I'd have a 5yr old Japanese car, and roll right into some bike payments. I wanted a Harley, so the payments would have been the same, lol. Then once the bike was paid off, the car would need to be replaced so then I'd find something and start those payments and I'd have my "forever bike".

Wife, house, and kids changed that plan. its all for the better right? I got bored with the car after 8 years, and bought my truck and met you nice people. Traded the car to a garage in exchange for some new KO2's mounted and installed on the rims.

    here's the bike I wanted,

I love the fat rear tire, skinny front, little bit raked out, and that king/queen seat in the rear with the ducktail fender.
slap a massive sissy bar on the back for my old lady and call it done.

Test rode it once at one of those "test our metal" events they host. what a nice ride!

It's got good grunt all round, but around 6k she starts to pull hard, like the inline fours start to really pull around 8k. But mine redlines at 10, and alot of the 600s are up around 15k! And the inline 1000s are just nuts. Mine is old, it wasn't the fastest bike when it came out, and it definitely isn't now. But I have never got bored of it. I will never get rid of it, but after longer rides, now that I'm older, I'm finding it more uncomfortable than I used to.
Definitely going to get another bike in a couple years, but I'm torn. Thinking between an adventure style (Africa twin) or a nice standard (KTM 1290r).

He sold it to buy a tractor, now he has a tractor, so I'm hoping he'll get another bike!

Yes, terrifying. I only rode it for maaaaybe 20 minutes. I didn't go over 8500rpm hahaha

I did notice a lot of strain on my hands during my short ride on the r6, I believe they have a higher seat height then a lot of the other sport bikes though, so they're a little more cramped. My SV also redlines at 10, but I haven't had it over 8. Billy's R6 redlines at 17k, friggen wild!

I think the KTM Super Duke would probably be a pretty good bet ;)

    Something like 180 hp, 1300 cc v-twin!

Funny because my triple will destroy Japanese 600s from 5000-12000rpm. They have longer legs but the grunt from the 3 cyl in the mid range is wild.
This coming from a guy that traded a ninja 600 for the Daytona.

    well.... kinda;)

    speaking of spending money,
    just bought my lift.

    886's
Billy 5100 all around ( found several supporting threads that said the 51's and 886's are fine, I guess I'll see )
    Icon 3 leaf AAL
and a 1/4 spacer for the lean.

gonna be a few weeks to get here, but after that, I'll have an install party!

Robin Hood Off Road ( found on FaceBook) had better prices for almost everything compared to Amazon and 4wheelparts.ca
give him a shout the next time you guys need something.

as for redlines, the 750's is 9500. Its the same engine that's in the CB750F (sport bike )

a common upgrade is to take the cam's out of the 900 and drop them in the 750. gives it more low end I gather. I've got the cams on the shelf, just waiting for my lazy butt to put them in.

you wanna talk about pull, for a hot moment, I had a 1982(ish) Honda V45 Magna. It sounded like an outboard motor running flat out, and took off like a bat out of hell, power all the way up to redline (10K). I was young and dumb, and sold it less then a month after I had it. Should have just fixed the minor issues it had and enjoyed it.

sounds like we all need to organize a ride and swap stories....

@Canoehead, you better get your license quick....:stirthepot:

I've read some pretty good things about the old Magnas! The v4 is a pretty cool setup, and they had something like 80hp in the 80's which is pretty impressive!

Huge thanks to everyone who offered to help my dumbass self fix my clutch. Thanks to @Snowman 's excellent diagnostic skills we got it going. Turns out even though the second gen only has one fluid reservoir for brake and clutch, there is a baffle that will allow the clutch side to drain while still looking full! Good fun thanks Toyota :D

I have been running bilsteins and OME 881s for a decade now, no issues. And the 5100s are warrantied forever against leaking or manufacturers defects anyway.

Does anyone have a recommendation where I can find some of these? I think they're called bed side deck rails. For some stupid reason, I took mine off. Now I can't find them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    lol

    the big question is....
what odd-ball parts do we need? Wonder if he's willing to chop up the wiring harness...
    some dash switches perhaps?

the weekend's coming, do we need a road trip?

I already have a road trip planned :(

I think the key would be to pay for one of the big ticket items and then see what he would just throw in as extra. . "I know what these parts are worth" though, might be a tough negotiator
