    it all starts with CAD

    Cardboard Aided Design

I just kept cutting and trimming and tracing stuff.
so first I figured out the maximum size of cardboard I could fit in the space, then I cut up another piece for the mounting holes, cut and trimmed that to where I wanted and taped it to the first piece of cardboard. once that was done I layed it all flat and traced my design on to a new piece, then cut and bent it into shape.

next I took all the stuff I wanted to incorporate ( Relay box, breaker switch, fused terminal blocks etc.. ) and played tetris with them until I was happy with the layout. I traced each compoent and cut out holes where needed ( mainly for the relay box since it has wires that come out below ).

did another test fit in the truck, adjusted as necessary, sometimes re-tracing out the original onto new cardboard and trying again.

once I was happy with my CAD, I transferred it all over to sheet metal ( can't remember if its 14 or 16ga ) and bent / cut it.

more test fitting, more cutting more tweaking.

not counting how many times I started over on Cardboard, the meltal version went through 3 revisions. Luckly I had a welder and was able to salvage my original sheet since I still ended up making a very large mistake.

the last "version" if you wanted to call it that was cutting off all the un-necessary metal.

my route was a bit more involved then what @Canoehead did. He picked a relaybox that also had additional slots for fused connections reducing his footprint greatly.

I bet if you sweet talk him a little bit, he'd make you one for a small fee......

I went my route since making what @Canoehead did was going to require a significant investment in tooling, one that I was not prepared to do at the time.

As for the actual wiring up the stuff in series and parallel, its not that difficult, I looked at a few refresher youtubes that gave me all the info I needed.

Haven't been around TW for a bit, thought I would check in. Got some Falken Wildpeaks at3w's installed. Liking them so far, havent really tried em offroad yet. Should be much better then the OEM were in snow.

Me too but I had a song stuck in my head about whiskey*

Edit, that's a lie. Less of the song stuck in my head and more my brain automatically replying to Canoehead saying he was near out of beer

Same here, (if) my lift ever arrives, these were going to be my tires of choice. I'm really keen on the winter performance in the snow / icy roads.
My KO2's are O.K. but not great. I really notice their lack of performance in the turns.

I'm actually extremely happy with my Michelin AT's but they just don't look aggressive at all :( I want something that performs as good and wears as good as the Michelin's but looks more aggressive and from what I've read on this site the Falken Wildpeaks seem to be the ones.

I've been super impressed with the Cooper ATWs I got off Canoehead. Haven't driven them in ice or snow yet but they rocked driving down the 102 river last night :p
Found this handy site yesterday when I was reading through one of the tire threads on here: Kinda validated what I had guessed at regarding bigger tires needing lower pressure than stock, even if it's just 265s

I went with the wax one from O'regan's... only shitty thing is for the warranty to stay in effect you have to spend like $40 a year to get them to 're-inspect' and 're-apply' their coating... which is annoying as hell.

I believe Krown is the same. They warrant against rust but you have to get it resprayed every year, miss one and you’re out of luck.

Yeah I did my first inspection/re-application last year, due for my second now, not sure if I want to bother or not... Means a trip into the city and leave it with them for the entire day so then I have to find a way to entertain myself for 6-8 hours... sigh Oh well, I'm off next Thursday/Friday and then the entire week of remembrance day so I may schedule it for then.

I've started to just wire wheel and repaint the frame as I repair stuff. So any time the tires come off I redo a foot of the frame give or take. Then cover it in some sort of greasy oily goop for the winter and it should last for another 10 years before I need to start welding on the frame.
