Anyone have any cute creative ideas for grtting this cap off my swingout? Ive already tried heat and a prybar with no luck...then tried removing the screw that holds it on and repeating the heat and prybar with with the same amount of success as before. Its probably got a good 5 years of rust holding it in place

Moar heat, some penetrating lub in the cracks and a hammer

Are you able to fit anything under this piece, or is the tailgate in the way (assuming that pin thing comes out)?

Right, so if that whole section is welded together, you should be able to put some leverage underneath the section I circled.

Now this is the stupidest thing I came up with, but you asked for creativity... stupid enough it might work.

    upload_2021-5-4_19-3-52.jpg

The red thing represents your lodged pin thing. You slide this teeter totter style thing in there and smash the other side with a hammer. (not to scale)

Assuming your teeter totter is strong enough, you pop that mf pin out like a champagne bottle on new years (2018 style).

Is that the part that actually swivels? Could you loop a rope around it and tie that to a tree?

Its the cap to the swivel. I need to take it off to grease the inside because the swingout is a full on workout to move.

Can you get at it from the bottom? I'm grasping here Bud, I just remember Shane telling you that you bought a new swingout and then it appeared on your truck one day lol

I think this ^^^ combined with two prybars on opposite ends working together to "wiggle" it up could work.

who's the manufacturer? there wouldn't be a circlip somewhere keeping it together is there?
or is this just gravity that is supposed to keep the swingout from flying off?

BIG Day at the WhaleFab Garage

    Bumper is *finally* done.
6x coats of POR15 on the front ( road facing ) and 2x coats everywhere else

6 coats because after the 4th coat the paint decided to be a weird "matt" finish instead of the gloss it was the previous 3 coats... and then another 2 coats to make sure I got everything looking even and purdy.....

    ACtC-3fM1zow8f7bz6Ag8brjTS39SyY1rgMf73cn_24ffc0157d8c554a3d1d8d949cc3b52ba98655a2.jpg

I don't think I'll be making any more front bumpers anytime soon.....
seriously, if I flipped the truck the day after its on, I would pull it off and put on the factory one THEN call the insurance company

    lol

    but I digress,
Next up is mounting the Runva 11xp winch and actually getting this DIRTY :mudding:

    PS: @Fahrenheit
if you look closely, you'll see your square tube under the bumper ( sorry for the dripage, I'll clean it off... ) and your frame plates leaning against the wall ( upper right of the picture )

I highly recommend that you apply an overcoat of some other type of paint over the POR15. POR15 degrades in UV light. I was also not at all impressed with its ability to resist abrasion even on suspension stuff on my old BMW.

I'm actually counting on the UV light issue. from what I read it dull's a bit when exposed. I'm not a huge fan of the gloss. That's actually what happened on coat #3.

I had bought a can of semi-gloss, and i'm **guessing** that whatever makes it "semi" settled on the bottom and then when I emptied the can for the very last coat ( coat #3 ) it dried all mat like. If it dulled a little, that would be perfect.
if it flakes off in big nasty chunks, well that's gonna suck.

if that's the case I'll pony up and powedercoat. Thanks for the warning though, I appreciate you looking out for me.

If this rain would stop, I could get this bad boy mounted

that was my un-official guess as well, 120 - 130lbs.
I'll see what I can do about a scale. I'm curious as well
