I've been following a few 2TR turbo builds, and you can really build these things up to take some boost!

I've got a game plan. Junkyard 2tr's are rare and expensive ( $5k! ) and have the same KM's that I do so no benefit for me. This is what I'm going to do

    1) replace the coolant bypass pipe with the updated metal one, Replace thermostat, replace / inspect rad drain plug, replace water pump.
    2) investigate the heater core to see if its leaking
    3) if coolant STILL is disappearing and I can't find it then its re-build time. @Canoehead got me in touch with someone who does builds and he would do the whole kit & kaboodle. Bore out the cylinders, etc..... complete rebuild, so all the things I do in step 1 won't be a waste of $$. I'd have to do that stuff anyway if I get to step 3.

I might get lucky, and step 1 will reveal the issue, or I'll have a rebuilt engine by next fall.
I did do a compression test last week ( sorry @TacoMitch93, still haven't done the wet test ) and the numbers were 145,145,150,150. So not great, but not at the lower limit of 130.

If I'm honest the engine could just be "tired" She's got 420,000 km's on it. its not unreasonable to think that its just getting worn out and needs to be rebuilt. If I can rebuild the engine for less cost then a junkyard engine it seems like the way to go. "no brainer" as the cool kids say.

at least it still runs good! just a bit of a stumble on startup, and a bit of a stumble on hard acceleration, both things I can live with.

Thanks for all the good info @TacoMitch93, its clear I'm just not that familiar with Toyota's interchangeability. Unless something pretty much fell into my lap and was a guaranteed home run, its pretty safe to say that I won't be doing any engine swaps this time. I need the guaranteed "win" this time but I do love talking about this and gathering more info.
we really need Coffee nights to start up again :)

My wife and I are currently planning on heading to NS this summer. We will be in a well built truck with AT Overland camper on it. Camping can be remote trying to avoid big campgrounds. I know there is a ton of beauty up there but what are some must see places. Truck isn't a mall crawler to dont mind taking it into harder to reach places

I don't disagree, just looking at why, unlike a lot of other enthusiast vehicles this truck hasn't been engine swapped with everything you can think of.

As for power, the 1UZ makes the same numbers as the 1GR until it gets to about 4k then the UZ makes more power. The 2UZ appears to be a solid 50-70hp threw the useful power range. The 1UZ weights about the same, so would make for an excellent street truck motor if you just wanted sound and a smoother engine. The 2UZ is a heavier engine but makes plenty more power everywhere.

I can tell you from experience with European diesel vans that weight about as much as the Tacoma and are running small car engines, no. Bad idea. Yes the VW motor makes great power. Once the turbo spools up. Until that turbo spools up you will be lugging along swearing at the lack of power. Then when you want to merge onto the highway, you rev the snot out of the engine. Redline might be 4k, but it isn't doing anything but making noise after 3k. If you want a Diesel you need the displacement to make it reasonable at North American highway speeds, and for the off idle driving, before the turbo has a chance to spool.

Looks like I am way behind on NS BS! notifications stopped and I've been missing out.

Anyway, a guy I know lost his 2011 Accesscab Tacoma to an accident, and he wants to sell the weathertech mats, 6' bedmat, and Tri-fold cover. I'm guessing most of us who want those things have them already, but if you are looking...

Depends what you want to see really - start here and see what grabs you:
    https://www.novascotia.com/places-to-stay/campgrounds/provincial-campgrounds
There are places to stay that aren't on that list too of course but the provincial parks are a good start. If you want views like this though you're going to have to hike for them :p20210711_080104.jpg

Weathertech floor mats, CaliRaisedLED 30" bumper light bar, CaliRaisedLED Ditch Lights - yet to be installed, CaliRaisedLED 52" Light Bar - not sure if I'm going to install...
So my spring mods list has grown rather ridiculous if you ask me:

Front bumper and winch to be installed.
52" light bar and ditch lights to be installed.
Black insert letters for the tailgate to be installed.
Replacement black Tacoma emblems for either door to be installed.
Hoping to order seat covers soon.
Also planning to install sound deadener on the rear wall of the cab as well as possibly my doors, even considering the extra door seals I saw someone on here install.
Also have quick grips to install some tools in the bed.

Would like to buy and install a good 12 volt setup and on board air at some point as well. For now I bought the Dewalt 20 V Air compressor which seems to work really well.
Really want to get a radio installed but not 100% clear on which type to install.

The next really big purchase I need to make is skid plates and I want to get a good steel rear bumper as well.

What projects do you guys have planned for this year?

    Chad

I have my ditch lights and finally my hidden 32’ light bar installed, just getting ready to pull the trigger on sumo springs for the back and a softopper.

Depends on what you are in to. If you like Wine we have some great wineries in the valley as well as up on the NW coast. If you want to tour around the province and see the sites I'd recommend doing the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton. If you're into history etc we have the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax as well as tons of smaller museums such as the Train Museum in Middleton or the Fire Fighters Museum in Yarmouth. If you like the idea of whale watching there are some great spots to do this down around Digby. If you like beer there are a ton of Breweries that have sprung up over the past few years and a few distilleries as well! If you like Maritime history and architecture the South shore of Nova Scotia has some beautiful towns as well as Peggy's Cove. If you like beaches there are some really nice ones all over the province including Melmerby, Risser's, Mavillette, and many more. If you like the idea of Tidal bore rafting I highly recommend you try the Shubenacadie river rafting. If you are in to hiking the walk out to Cape Split is quite spectacular, but there are also tons of shorter hikes like the one out to balancing rock or the one at the end of my road to Crystal Falls. I can think of tons of things to do in NS but it all depends on what you are in to and what you want to get out of your trip :)

We need a coffee meet to discuss. This won't fit in a forum!

...but since you asked: new, made to last, custom y pipe with low profile crossover, transmission skid plate, flat bed, plate rear bumper.

They won’t give you a good trade value? That’s odd since they are selling used for the same price as new, or sometimes more.

There is no movement in price of a new truck..and they want to make a pile on my used truck. I posted it on kijiji and have had better offers from other dealers.

Keep in mind you save the tax on a trade, too. So $35k offer at the dealer is actually over $40k total trade value.
