I bought my sliders from Dan and asked him if he was interested in doing up Skids for me and at the time he didn't bite so I'm guessing he was only making them for himself but I'm not 100% sure, @D2. are you making skids to sell?

How's everybody doing? Just got power and internet back here in Halifax (Fairview) - power went out at 1:30am and cell towers started going down once everyone woke up and realised they had no Wi-Fi I reckon. Data started getting spotty around 9am, couldn't send text messages by 10am and had no service whatsoever by 11am. Can't complain though, last outage map I saw this morning said my power would be off until tomorrow night and I can see there are still thousands without. Anybody local needs a hand cleaning up or somewhere to charge devices let me know.

My place in the west end still doesn’t have power. Have the generator going now so we can keep the fridge cold, watch tv and internets. Big tree broke the power pole at the end of the street so be a while yet. Tree trimmers are out there now but NSP needs a new pole before the juice can flow.

    Hey Everyone!

    So... yes.. and no.... :)

I did make a front skid plate, plasma cut, welded with support ribs etc...but what I found was there were parts that were very finicky to align. I installed / removed the plate at least 6 times, Checking clearance, checking angles, checking this that, adjusting the mounting holes etc...

so that kind of discouraged me a bit from thinking about making more. What I should / need to do is make up a welding template ( or it would be awesome if I could get a front clip from a taco in my back yard... ) but yah.

I quite like my skid. its not installed because of two in progress things ( upgraded alternator, and fixing my AC Clutch )
Also my personal life is pretty full these days with family and stuff so I'd hate to promise anyone anything and then drag my heels getting it done.

I think Costal Offroad has skid plates, they are CDN and ship their stuff.

    I made out OK.
no damage to my house or property, no trees lots. Just was with out power until Sunday mid afternoon.
I had the generator going to the house so I could keep the fridge cold and get the internets up and running. Pretty un-eventful on my end.

Cleaning up at the in laws cottage this weekend - if you look closely there's a canoe under there. If you look real close you'll see two but you'd need x ray vision to spot the third :p

So back to the subject of brake lines...

Ruptured the upper line in the pic below last night, luckily I was just leaving the house so I didn't get stranded anywhere but now I'm without my truck until Toyota can get me a new line on Wednesday. So I'm thinking about whether or not I want to get into making my own. Seems like it might be a good skill to have at this point as I'm sure this isn't a one off and I'll only see more failing from here on out. On the other hand, I don't have a lot of room on the work bench right now. Too many projects on the go.

How hard is it to make them? Do you need any tools beside the flaring tool? (like torch, vise, cutters - any off that stuff?) What fittings do we need and do you have to buy them in bulk or can you get a couple at a time? How does it work out cost wise? This line is $38 at Toyota or $28 + $18 shipping at tpd..

You can buy pre made lines with the same fittings in different length at any auto parts store. Bend it to the same shape and replace.
Shouldn't be any more than $15.

You just need the flaring tool, and a plumbing pipe cutter, that’s it.
Fittings and the steel line are available at cdn tire and auto parts stores like @blacktacooma mentioned. You can bend it by hand, or they have snazzy inexpensive hand held benders.

The only thing I’ll add is you might want to buy a flare tool that can do double flairs

Anyone know where I can get blueprints or patterns or whatever they are called for Skid plates for the 3rd Gen? Looking to find plans for a full set of skids as I recently found a person who can make them for me but he needs plans or a blueprint or some such... pls advise!

Also @D2. I got the rock sliders powder coated, got them back last night, they are looking good! Guy at the powder coat place was very impressed with the quality of the sliders you made for me... said he rarely sees them done correctly anymore and was complementing your welding abilities too :) Thought you might appreciate the kudos!

    oohhh powder!

did you get black, or some sexy bronze?

Thanks for the Kudo's! I'm going to walk into the weekend a little "taller" now ;)

did he say anything specificly around the " done correctly " part?
I did things that I think add strength, and there were things I did because some one told me to ( other welders ) so I'm just a little curious.

Also still have that set of 2nd Gen Bolt on sliders 80% ready to go in my garage.... anyone want them? they Fit DCSB & ACLB taco's PM me if you want to talk.

also Chad, I'll PM you about the Skids, I got no issues giving you all the info I collected on them, the threads, my files, measurements etc..

@D2. he didn't give specifics that I know of, he did mention if you had any more sliders he could prob get rid of them for you quite quickly if I remember correctly. I'd love to see what you have skid plate info wise, I've got cash to buy skids right now!

Oh, and I went with satin black for colour on them :)
