When we were talking about your f-150 yesterday didn’t realize it was a raptor. I’ve been eyeing those lately! Pretty cool trucks! Maybe in a few years!

Here are my pics at full size:

This is my vid of the powerline climb:

@RChristopherSven is playing in the mud at about the 4:50 mark.

Some Elvis Costello, Metallica, and Zeppelin in the background. Sorry, it is a bit long.

This is the little snow climb:

Pretty uneventful, but that stuff is probably why we saw the Corolla come back the other way.

Also, I'm confused. My phone is on a solid mount, not a gimble. I don't get why the truck is moving around relative to the camera? That seems like a lot more than image stabilization?

BTW, I hate shooting in portrait mode, but it takes too long to swap the mount around to for landscape. I think I will toss on another mount for landscape next time.

I forgot to mention, when we were on our way down we saw a Law Enforcement guy out talking to people shooting.
We eventually got caught going super slow behind a Silverado (I think they had been out shooting too, dressed in orange).
And the Law Enforcement guy caught up to us and was just sitting behind me the whole time.
I eventually pull over because we were coming up to 70 and I needed to air up.
As soon as I put my blinker on to pull over into a gravel side space, he puts his lights on.
But he pulls over the Silverado....
I think he gave him a ticket cause they were there for a while and the guy kept going to his truck.
Passed him again on 70, talking to some other guy who was obviously out shooting.
Just super thankful it wasn't me he wanted to talk to, I dread the day I get pulled over and have to explain Texas plates and a Washington license.

When I moved here in the 90s and tabs were expensive, I had a PoS Dodge that I bought here. Over a year later, the tabs were expired, I still had my PA license, and was speeding in the rain. Trifecta!

The friendly cop let me off with just a ticket for the OOS licence, which was a mandatory court date. He said that the judge would toss it if I showed up with a WA license and was appreciative because I reminded him to renew his tabs. Even with the WA licence, the judge fined me $125. Oh well.

Good thing you made it out without a visit. It sounds like he was looking for folks in orange?

Damn, nice cop, rude judge lol
I just can't afford $700/year for a fucking registration sticker. Plus since the truck is still so new and I bought it in Texas, I'm sure I will have to pay additional sales tax. I'm planning a road trip next year back to Texas to renew the registration there. I'll just claim it's my parents (they still live in TX) and they let me borrow it from time to time.

Ya, I guess he was just out looking for shooters .... I just assume with Texas plates and the "bullet" hole in my tail gate I'd be a prime suspect lol

Yup! That judge seemed like an unpleasant fellow in general. I've "met" some nice ones over the years though. . . I have a decent win percentage. Hello. My name is tony. I have a problem with speed.

I can't remember what the rules are on taxes. I do not believe that we paid anything over the registration fees for our 1995 Metro (purchased in 1994) when we registered it in 1997? That was back when we still needed a WSP inspection to bring a vehicle in.

I don't know about Seattle city taxes, but even with ST3, my Taco was $434. Way more than I think is reasonable but also better than some folks that we heard from.

They probably thought the hole was a sticker.

I just bought a Miata instead of getting Texas plates for the truck haha
Tabs for that were like $100 ... Still stupidly overpriced for a 17 year old car go-kart

Nice! I've been trying to convince our 15yr old that a Miata would be a perfect car for her (me!). She's not grasping the idea.

Yeah, my bike is freaking $80. Just not right.

They're fun as shit. I had one in Texas before I moved, sold it for the cash for the move. Regretted it every day.
So I eventually broke down and bought the exact year/model/color as I had before. But in slightly better paint condition and lower mileage.

Give her a manual civic. Safe, cheap to fix, and the manual will teach her how to drive... not how to text and steer.

I dunno if I'd give a miata to a kid for their first car. They're so small, no one ever sees you and I can't imagine they're the safest when it comes to an accident.

Agreed! I've wanted one forever and was able to take a spin in a co-worker's NA many years ago. It was addictive for all the reasons.

I've tried to get her in the Taco for a few lessons, but only managed it once. She hasn't yet seen the light of three pedals and is a bit fixated on old Mazda3s or Imprezas. Pretty good ideas, which would last her a long time, but . . . She's so reserved that something fun and responsive would be good for her. She likes the wife's Forester but will be in for a slight shock when she drives something without a turbo.

    Get her a MazdaSpeed3

I had a 2008, fully modded and tuned, but sold it before the move. Loved the car, super safe, reliable (before I modded it....), they're all manual. Turbo 4-banger, it's quick, fun, peppy, and excellent handling.

Hahaha! Those were genius. I'm surprised that they didn't do any mazdaspeeds with the current 3 or Miata.

Her halo car is a WRX. I told her that if she can find one cheap enough and insurance is about the same (right!?), we can look at it. I was cross shopping Legacy 2.5GTs, WRXs, Wranglers, and Tacos, so I can be convinced pretty easily and am a sucker for forced induction.

She needs to get in a lot more time before we get serious though. I've had her practicing since she was 11, but after taking driving school this summer (did well), she has been less enthused about driving but still talks endlessly about getting a car.

Its from the vibration. The short answer is the camera sensor on a phone scans in vertical lines instead of horizontal ones like on an actual camera so if the phone sensor is panning (vibrating left and right) faster than its scanning, it creates a 'jello' effect. Look at what happens to airplane rotors on youtube.

    Also heres some pictures:

Nice pics! I flat out love drone shots.

Not so much that wavy jitter (jello effect), but the actual displacement of the hood up / down, left / right. It was in a fixed RAM mount. Those large pans seem odd for a fixed mount. I will give it a go in landscape and see if it does the same.

    I tried landscape yesterday:
    https://youtu.be/cxT_c5CJodA

The jello effect seems worse, but that could be the larger portion being seen on-screen and speeds were higher. But, I can still see the camera compensating in the mount as if it was a gimble. People and objects don't move, but the portion of the truck in the frame does. It just seems like more IS compensation than I would have expected for at stupid phone camera?

BTW, a little Jimi jam in the background. :D
