While there is much to like about my new 2021 Taco, it is encumbered with electronics that I will probably have no use for.

But on a recent trip of 1400 miles on ice- and snow-covered interstate, I experienced the wonder and potentially life-saving miracle that is Electronic Traction Control. I had switched out of 4H back to 2H on what I thought was a dry stretch of pavement but what was really black ice. The truck started to fishtail but quickly corrected. It was over before I could finish swearing.

Lessons learned: pay attention to the outside air temperature on the thermometer. When driving on mixed road conditions, just keep the dang thing in 4H. A few extra mpg saved in 2h isn't worth an accident. Maybe toss some extra weight into the bed for winter (tho I would have thought the 200-lb topper would help). And the traction control button has a JOB.

I will never say another bad thing about the electronics on this vehicle.

I took all my electronics out of my Tacoma.

Now I get about 4MPG highway, and the engine produces 103HP, and 82lb-ft of torque. My truck does 0-50MPH in six minutes, and takes 1475ft to stop from 30MPH.

All that said, it’s totally worth to me it for the peace of mind and having less gizmos to break.

You forgot to remove the digital blinker fluid reservoirs. Albeit they are hard to get at. Makes it perform like a BMW.

I like like the nanny systems most of the time. Very often they keep me from being stupid. There are moments when I scratch my head and wonder why.

I've turned off as much as i could with these electronics, and have been happier for it. Imo, after driving countless miles for over 50 years without an accident, these electronics are an annoying nuisance.

even if you are as amazing as you claim, the road is full of fucking morons. more safety features are better for everyone. i would much rather trust my safety to a computer than to some dumbass doing her makeup while driving 80mph down the highway.

Please install all of your electronics back as you have also unknowingly disturbed the mothership and associated big brothers.

OP is correct. After our last vehicle being a 2003 Pathfinder that we owned for 15 years going to our new Tacoma was a big step up. Messing around in a snowy parking lot, wife and I got to feel the effects of the nanny controls. We were impressed with how it worked. Experiencing the engine cut for the first time was weird but VSC and traction control worked very well.

As an avid motorcyclist, I whole-heartedly disagree with this statement.
They make drivers much, much lazier.

You are actually praising Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and not traction control. Yes, it does work.

Indeed it does work well, a few years ago in the Summer l went around a sharp off camber turn where a truck had lost a load of gravel and it kicked in immediately.

I wasn’t a fan of the nanny stuff until I had it. I’m a diligent driver and when I’m behind the wheel, I’m 100% task focused. I like the additional information from the BSM and camera. The lane departure can be annoying and I turn it off on mountain roads as I often scrub the inside line. I’ve decided I like the traction stuff as it can adjust faster than a person could. I think of it as additional capability rather than something that takes over tasks I am responsible for. Almost everything from fighter planes to motorcycles, to some race cars have some type of “nanny” system today as they assist in the operation of the vehicle, not replace the operator.

Let me tell you a computer can't distinguish a good driver from a dumbass. Yes i've had my share of close ones on the roads, even in the past. I've always had exceptional vision, and perception of what goes around me. Just been lucky enough never to have an accident on a public road.
