I cant decide what to do. Should I keep the shell, or sell it? If i keep it, do i hoist it up in the garage until i want it on? What looks better, shell or no shell? Starting to drive me crazy....

Keep it in case you need it.
Looks way better without the shell, something that I would never put on my truck.

No shell, looks much better IMO. Keep / sell... In reality, you probably won't mount it again because it's a pita and you'll be used to getting by without it. So sell that bitch.

    Workin' on it....
I think the question you need to be asking is do you need the utility of having extra lockable dry storage space??? If not then get rid of it because the truck does look better without a shell. If you do need the cap, then function trumps form.

I like it without. Throw a bed rack on there. Keep the shell for when you need to transport stuff and keep it dry.

I like the way it looks with the shell. Also, unless you plan on hauling items too large to fit in the bed with the shell, it serves to protect anything you put back there.

I love having a shell, on my old truck I kept the shell in the garage for long road trips, camping, any time I don't need to haul anything above cab height basically.

    Too few to list.
The truck looks good the way it is with the shell. If you're leaving it off, long beds looks better with 285's. Shell makes it look longer...

Put the shell back on. It is expensive and if you bought it new your going to eat a pretty penny. I could not imagine not having a shell at this point. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder....I like the looks of the shell and feel it makes the truck more versatile. I like being able to leave things in the back, sometimes for weeks, and knowing they are not in the weather. Get a utility trailer and the possibilities become endless. If its the fear of "looking like an old man" try not to be so vain, perhaps the old men have figured something out??

I like shells, softoppers more precisely but I do think a Tacoma looks really clean with a nice topper on the bed, hard or soft.

The only ones that remind me of an 'old man' are the the tall shells, the ones that rise above the the height of the cab. I dunno why but I always think of old people with those lol.

Even as a Tacoma owner with a shell, my opinion is better without. That being said, function outweighs looks. I've had a cap on all three of my Tacomas.

I'm biased, but I like MGM with the shell on. I say keep it on.

I voted keep the shell in the garage since there are times when you do use it.

Also I think open-bed pickups are still registered as commercial vehicles (I have an open bed and I pay extra registration for my commercial plates even though I don't own a business). I've researched this issue and as long as the bed is enclosed (tonneau/shell) you can keep a "regular" vehicle registration and pay less. I would not worry about it though, imagine the horrible day a cop would need in order to ticket you for something like that.

Sell it if you don't need it. But without looks much better!
