I searched for a thread on this but since the 2024 details are out now , I think it’s appropriate to ask. Will 3rd generation, 2023 in particular resale value go up , down, no effect or to early to tell ?
I actually think goes up and maybe resale is not the right word , desirability?
2024 seem to have an awful lot of tech, not a bad thing but is that what you want in a truck you hoping to hold on for a long time ?

I will say this with certainty. The 3rd gen values will either go up, down, or remain the same :spy:

Really no way to know. People will come out in flocks to overpay for early 4th gen’s.

One thing going for 3rd gen values will be 4th gen prices. Vehicle prices are getting out of hand, so many will be pushed to a used 3rd gen for a “cheaper” price.

3rd gen are Windows Vista. Plummeting value. 2nd gens up too because no engine tunes needed. YMMV.

I think it depends on the trim. I think the Pro will hold its value more because the only 24 option is a hybrid platform. Especially the MT versions.

I think @Just_A_Guy is right there is a lot of tech in there that many people may not want to mess with. Turbo for one thing. I think a NA v6 will be desirable for some time for the TW people.

Key word is highlighted. We are not the population. Millions of Tacomas have been purchased/enjoyed by people who have no idea this site exists. We are irrelevant in the big picture.

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
I think they will hold theirs as the 2nd did. The ones loosing some pesos are the ones who overpaid on marked up bs.

Of course values will go down, but I think the better question is, "How fast?"

In a world that's still short on chips and where the iForce MAX won't even start production until a year from now, I think Tacoma resale is going to be just as good for the third gen as it has been for every other.

What's shiny and new always drives down the value of what's seen as older and outdated, but the Toyota truck community seems to care a little less about "new" for the sake of reliability.

Related, but unrelated: I was thinking the 2.4T might come with stronger specs that would make me envious about having the V6, but the same horsepower and a bit more torque aren't massive changes. Growing up driving 4cylinders, I'm just not excited about buying another one even though I know today's are much better than they were. NVH is always going to be a challenge in a 4cyl, and it's been widely noted in the RX and Highlander that transitioned from GR V6 to the 2.4T.

3rd gens will be devalued just like the Volkswagon diesels. :argue:

The 4th gen is probably gonna cost far more than the 3rd gen. I doubt the resale value will change since any generation of Tacomas has always been in high demand.

I think in the short term 2-3 years the values remain the same for all. It won't be until these new ones are readily available that you may see a hit. Yes even the second gens, that are now 8-17 years old are going to been seen as antiques and will take another hit.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I stopped paying attention the day I drove my '21 TRD OR off the dealer's lot.
Don't much give a sh$% about the '22s & later cuz I'm not going to 2nd guess what I did buy.
I'm happy & content with my '21 TRD OR and intend to stay that way.

Tacoma 3rd gen prices will fall dramatically from current prices. It is far from a legendary tacoma.
