historically most well maintained one owner vehicles with average miles, particularly a toyota and even more so a tacoma, has and will continue to hold its value. the average age of a vehicle in the US is now about 12 years.

what is likely to be an over-priced 4G tacoma will have little to no effect on used tacoma prices.

the new 4G tacoma is very techy, lots of models and options, and with that is sure to be lots of issues.

There are many economic factors in play, as all used cars have been overpriced for a couple of years. Our 2017 Sienna is worth more in 2023 than what we paid for it at Carmax in 2021. Personally I don’t care as I plan to keep my ‘22 Tacoma for at least 15 years, hopefully more.

My guess is the Pro MT will hold value because its the last of the top of the line MT in the lineup of any 3rd or 4th gen.

The limited though will lose out like crazy compared to its msrp because it didn't offer anything amazing compared to the 4th gen.

The base models will always have a place because they didn't get hyped up.

    In between is anyone's guess.

Personally while I like the 4th gen, I'm holding out for non NiMH battery tech.

While I don't completely agree, I am hearing the siren call of more torque. A LOT more torque. There are a LOT of "+" to the new model. But I will wait a year or so.

Note however, it still has the same ground clearance at 9.5" with 33's as my '20 OR with OEM tires. So it sounds groovy but, not exactly what you might think.

I like the Gen 4 looks. The interior looks ok. Toyota did a good job. It seems... the view from some angles can look odd. - I'll wait to see it in the flesh.

I'll stick with my 2021 thank you. - I'll happily wait for an EV Tacoma (Or one of the promised EV small 4x4 alternatives to come.)
I don't want a power tailgate, and a 4 cylinder turbo. Id want a manual pro. The funky seats are a bit over the top... more - complexity, more weight.

We'll se the actual performance and MPG numbers. - Same clearance, worse breakover angle, same HP (+a bit added torque), heavier tires.

That air dam should have been crossed off in red marker at the first design review - WTF?? (It must provide a good amount of aerodynamic benefit... I guess?).

I believe 3rd gen prices will 'hold'. Mostly because Inflation will keep us impressed with the 'value' of our trucks when looking at sale prices. -More impressive will be the cost of any replacements we look at in the future as new prices reflect this inflation! (including the Gen 4 tacos). Then we'll scratch our heads in wonder and continue driving our normally aspirated tacos.

3rd gens will still hold decent value no matter what happens with the 4th gen. If the 4th gen has issues right after release (similar to the tundra) I think it will drive up 3rd gen prices for a while. If the 4th gen comes out and seems solid for a few months, I think 3rd gen values will drop a bit.

After a few years if the 4th gen shows solid reliability with little complaints. I think the 3rd gen value will suffer a bit.

I they can't keep up with the demand of 4th gen, and they keep up with demand on 3rd gens, then yes they will remain high!

When I started my career we worked towards “consensus” as part of the fabric of community. I’m less optimistic this skill is present in the here and now, but I agree with all.

Tacoma used prices are starting to drop rapidly, just like every other brand (albeit slower than the brands that don’t hold their value as well) the entire car/truck industry is experiencing major price drops used and new. Toyota will be no different, but again, slower than most other brands.
Tacomas were artificially bloated, just like every other car out there- it was only a matter of time. Offers are 5k+ lower than 6 months ago on tacoma trade ins alone.

I'm secretly glad the PRO probably won't be offered in a 6MT if the PRO is married to the iForce Max, otherwise I'd be pretty damn interested.
