I wouldn’t put my faith on resale values with folks who never liked Gen3 and just want to short sell it at every opportunity. Anyone remember when they declared values would absolutely crash when early ‘16’s had teething issues? Yeah, right.

Nobody can reliably predict exactly what resale values will be a couple years from now. What we do already know is that historically Tacoma values have always hovered near the top of all vehicles regardless of what the overall used car market looked like. I’d bet my money on that to continue. Things like V6 vs T4 or styling preferences are personal preferences that won’t affect values in an aggregate way. Both Gen3 and Gen4 look good and will be reliable.

Short term values could be affected as current owners trade up on ‘24’s and more Gen3’s hit the auctions, but that balances out later b/c demand for used Tacos is always high. If you absolutely must have a ‘24, you should expect the dealer to a.) jack the sticker up, and b.) absolutely lowball your Gen3 trade and tell you how worthless it’s is.

Best choice is to wait a year or two; otherwise, I’m looking forward to hearing your early purchase stories.

Late third gens should be OK as they got some of the transmission issues tweaked, early third gens will lose value, late second gens with low miles will hold value if taken care of, they are truck trucks.

I prefer the torque curve of a turbo over a higher displacement NA motor. That being the only benefit IMO, I'd say fuel economy as well, but if you are using the low end torque you aren't saving fuel.

And you think this new one is windows 10, engine we all waited for ? LOL.
    I'd rather have a 6. Holding on to my 6 for 250K.
Not too keen on all the crap on the new 4.

All 3rd gens are the same with tranny updates. Nothing really changed.
I drove 3 2021s as loaners while they waited for parts on my 3rd brake light leak fix under warranty and they rode like crap compared to my 2016.
I have a fox suspension on mine and tranny updates.
2021's shifted worse and rode and steered worse.
Couldn't wait to get back in my 2016, seriously. It was a late build in the year. 0 issues other than the brake light which later models had problems also. Oh and a battery and tires, and brake pads lol.

I have a 2016 with 115k miles. Rides great and is reliable. I had a main cat fail, which sucked. But it is a solid truck. I’ll never get rid of it and I’m very happy to have it since they killed off the access cabs in the 4th gen. I don’t really think there is much of a difference in any year 3rd gen at this point.

It’s all personal preference but to me it’s boxy and clunky looking.

I don't think the release of the 4th gen will have much effect one way or the other on the resale value of the 3rd gens. For reference look at the resale value of the previous gens after the 3rd gen came out.

I predict prices will plummet on all 3rd gens and soon you won’t even be able to give them away…

the 3rd gen is going to be the puffy shirt of the truck community…

I'm happy with my 22, I'm not a fan of anything I see on the 24. All except, I wish they made that air dam for the 3rd for long distance highway travel. Might save a few bucks on gas.

The value will drop, that is inevitable. However I don't see it plummeting. The Toyota name will keep that from happening.

I think toyota did a good job on the 4th gen. I guess we will see how well they done soon. 3rd gens will do fine initially, even better if the new one is plagued with quality issues. Tailhunter is overboard for me

People like new vehicle technology, i think that is the biggest selling point with Rav4 and new Tundra/Sequioa right now. Vehicle infotainment also pulled in alot of 3G customers from previous genenerations.
