    That's correct.

There will be cases of all 3 answers anecdotally told here and none of them will reveal the overall marketplace. I don't think it's something that we will ever 'know'.

The 4th gen looks sweet. I am digging most of the changes they made. But I bought a CPO ‘21 with super-low mileage in January; so the new changes probably don’t feel as seismic to me as I can appreciate they’d feel to OGs.

…But that said I ain’t touching a new build the first model year. And also I already have enough extra money tied up in making my ‘21 the way I want it that my wife would probably have me living in it if I said I already wanted to trade it. I’ll see where things are at in 2026. LOL

Under hood looks like a snake pit. Easier engine removal, maybe. Has toyota improved on the rust issues that killed so many before it? Dealer markup should be wild over some of these.

When I saw the 24 reveal I thought "Ooh I really like it. I'm going to have to trade mine in on one". But after giving it some more thought there really isn't a compelling reason for me to trade in my 21. Especially since it only has 15k miles on it lol. I'm happy with my 3rd gen and will probably keep it until at least 2026, if not longer.

I picked up a rectified 2014 vw golf wagen, came with a 10 year powertrain/emissions warranty from its in service date from VW, in great shape. Awesome car, goes forever on a tank.

The new 4th gen has peak power down at 1700 RPM, the 3rd gen is a laughing stock in comparison. Toyota is finally joining the modern world….

I'm more interested in what happens with the 6th gen 4runner.

Been wondering this question myself, seeing as how I got a 23 in Feb. I would think they would hold their value just like every other generation of Tacoma but who knows what will happen. I actually like the looks of the 3rd gen better but nothing wrong at all with the 24. Time will tell!

Are they still going to push the "only needs an oil change every 10k" with a stock turbo? Wonder if the alternator will be beefed up to charge the optional 200ah 'boost' battery and if it'll be configured to double as a host battery for the built in inverter.

If and when I do get a 4th gen down the road I will not be getting the hybrid. The turbo 4 will serve my needs just fine.

If the hybrid got much better gas mileage I would consider it, but if the Tundra is any indication I don't think it will.

Exactly, that turbo with those torque numbers, sounds like bad bearings to me in no time! It’s going to be interesting what the life expectancy is for the 4 banger. It’s going to be asking a lot from that powertrain.

I bought a '23 ORSB MT about 6 weeks ago. Obviously I knew the 24s were coming and assumed a turbo 4. I also suspected they would keep the MTs, at least in a limited way, to appease the enthusiasts. Still, I wanted the NA 6 and figured the MT would allow me to manage any low end torque issues. In fact, I couldn't be more happy with my truck. The new ones are great. Toyota is going to be very successful with them. Sure there will be some teething pains, but they will be worked out quickly. The one thing that really puts me off is that gigantic touchscreen infotainment abomination. Who wants that anyway? In any vehicle ever? How hard is it to control your radio? How is it not a colossal distraction and driving hazard? I can't belive those things are even legal.

How about my dog? She rides back there - currently in the back seat of my 4 door. But an access cab would work as well. Even a single door so she can jump in without getting tangled in the seatbelt or having to come over the console.

No screen would be so nice Toyota could just use there digital rear view display mirror for the reverse camera and I'd be good. Maybe a removable display for the gps I use twice a year.

I have a huge radio in my Ram 1500 and it’s amazing, would never go back. Actually helps see the controls much easier on the road.

I think 3rd gen sales will be just as good as they have been. These trucks are miles ahead of the competition as far as reliability goes, which really is all that matters. The 4th gen will go through the first couple of years of troubles but it too will become great. Turbo? Yeah whatever, if that's what you need to keep you happy then Toyota will eventually put it in their vehicles. I don't look at it like they are catching up with the other makes, turbos are a reliability concern, that's why Toyota has been reluctant in putting one in the Tacoma. Toyota is smart enough to know what you need rather than chasing all the other makers with their half baked ideas for tech and performance bs. I'm happy with the performance of the 3.5, it does everything I need in normal day to day traffic, I have no problem keeping up with traffic or merging on to highways. I honestly like the simplicity of my Offroad, no premium package, it doesn't have all the tech that everybody NEEDS, it doesn't even have TPMS. It looks like I'll be keeping it for quite a while, which was my intention anyway. If I change my mind I will still get great money for it.

Toyota sales never seem to be affected by newer generation vehicles launching. Look at the price of 1st gen sequoias/tundras, 3rd/4th gen 4r's, and 1st/2nd gen tacomas.. Everything seems to stay pretty valuable unless it's beat to absolute sh*t. In the end, people are going to buy what they feel is best for them anyways.

good point, I can’t believe I forgot about dogs, probably one of the stronger use cases. So many people pull the seats and build platforms for their dogs! The access cab suicide door would be dog friendly, maybe necessary to accommodate getting bigger dogs in and out.
