I think your tin foil hat is entire too large. Don't get me wrong, I can understand your logic, but you're making a huge jump to sensationalize your point of view. Banning watching hockey because of swearing? Guess what, someone can already call the police and file a noise complaint for that. Telling people they can't drink or watch certain TV in their own homes as was mentioned isn't really a relevant comparison. You're talking about things that have no bearing on others. No one is annoyed by someone drinking a beer next to them. If they're trashed and being annoying, they can get arrested for public intoxication. As I mentioned, if something is too loud, someone has grounds to call the police. If someone is drunk and kills someone, we have DUI and manslaughter/murder laws. The things everyone as mentioning as liberties that are going to be taken away are things that under normal circumstances are not detrimental to others and if they are, there are already legal complaints one can make. On the other hand if I'm say living in apartment and my neighbor is constantly smoking and it's coming in my windows, there's nothing I can do about that except move. On the flip side, i could just tell the smoker to move into his own house, goes both ways.

The ONLY way I would get behind being against this new law is if every single building that would fall under this law were required to be either 100% pro smoking or 100% anti smoking. As is though, I don't think there are many of those out there, therefore this law would help people.

Really, this boils down to a situation like the videos of sober people refusing to answer questions at DUI checkpoints. It has no negative impact on you, you just want to argue to try and prove your constitution rights with no regard for other people. Maybe I missed it, but has any person who actually smokes chimed in on this post yet bitching? Seems like a bunch of people who don't smoke, and don't even live in California complaining. Get over it, they're not going to make the jump from telling people they can't annoy others with their disgusting habit to suddenly being able to randomly search your home for no reason, tell you what you can watch on TV, tell you what you can eat, tell you what room you can jerkoff in, etc. Don't like the law? Buy/rent your own house. Can't afford one? Stop wasting all the money you are in the first place on cigs.

I have zero sympathy for smokers of any type. I lost both of my parents to that evil activity - so let smokers bitch all they want.

I was under the impression that it was already illegal to cook crack cocaine inside your home. If you thought it was legal I would recommend giving your local police a call so they can explain the intricacies of felonies.

I smoke and I'm not bitching. What everyone fails to point out in these situations is that it was voted on and passed. If you dont like this then get out and let your voice be heard. If it still passes then you are the minority view, get over it

Exactly. So it's not even a point of the government forcing this on people. The people, who actually live there and are actually effected by this, have approved it.

Everybody is in favor of state's rights local laws until someone on the other side of the country makes one they don't agree with and don't have to live with. Then, OH MY GOD IT'S A GATEWAY LAW! :goingcrazy:KILL IT!

I'm in favor of banning smoking pretty much everywhere except inside your own home with the windows closed. :D

They should have to pay twice as much for health care, too.

With all the parents I see smoking with their small children in the car, I think a lot of people just think "fuck the children" lol.

Now THAT should be illegal right there. BUT, alas, people will then be angry that someone is telling them what they can't do inside their own vehicle.

Did not know that. Excellent law IMO. At least growing up, most my friends who had parents who smoked didn't do so in the car and went outside of the house. Only a couple were shit heads and didn't care.

How was this stalwart refusal to compromise? The majority voted for and approved this. It was not shoved down their throats by a tyrannical government.

As for everyone's rights: yes, people have the right to smoke. But that right does not trump the rights of non-smokers, and it's obvious that a large (enough) number of people in San Rafael, California agree.
