I guess their cousin has a friend who knows a guy that heard this from another guy he knows that works in the design department at Toyota. It's not like anyone with a YT channel would ever put unsubstantiated rumors out there to get clicks. :anonymous:

I won’t touch a four banger turbo or even worse a four banger turbo hybrid. Godspeed to your wallet for all those who choose this path.

Shows how out of touch Toyota is presently. No consumer in this category wants this, but but but CAFE…

As someone that isn’t much of a car guy, can someone explain what’s bad about the turbo hybrid? I keep seeing people complain about this, but I don’t know enough to understand why.

    Thanks!

In all seriousness, the engine lineup, I'm cool with.

What I'm not cool with is this:

    upload_2022-12-14_7-18-4.jpg

Look at the dimensions of that fucker. Bed rails above his armpits. Roofline that would scrape most garage thresholds. Rocker panel that sits a good 3-4 inches lower. Go look at your current truck, draw a line across the bottom of your doors and see where it intersects the wheel hubs. Now look at where it intersects in that picture. Looks to me like Toyota addressed the complaints about midsized trucks having a midsized interior space, and quietly killed the midsized truck. ^^^ That is not a midsized truck.

Because every real man knows the bigger the engine the bigger your drawers are. Who cares that the 454 in the 90’s made 285 HP, that sumbitch was 7.5 liters of fun.

Totally agree. I one of the main reasons I'm in a Tacoma now is b/c the F150 just got so big. I dont need that much truck anymore.

i often wonder (to be honest, that's a lie) why they disguise the prototypes, pardon me, 'test mules', the way they do. it draws more attention than if they left it uncovered. and who can't make a reasonable guess as to the design and powertrain given what's already been released.

it's not fooling anyone, and the competition isn't thrown off or changing their tactics. everyone knows it'll have less power, tow rating, tech, and fuel mileage, relative to the competition. that's not always a bad thing but for the most part, it's always been that way.

look at the latest gen tundra. does anyone at toyota really think they will gain market share with that truck?

Haha...you should have been there in 1970 when it made 450hp. Fun hell, it was down right scary!:D

It all started with the 3rd gen, Toyota having to make trucks the government likes, not the consumer.
I agree on the size of that thing, what happened to the first gen size…????

Nor do I. I'm mostly upset by this trend of raising the bedsides so high that even a tall guy like me can't reach in anymore. That literally renders half of the vehicle useless. I'm looking at that photo above and trying to think of one thing it can do that a Sprinter van can't do better.

Completely agree. They are not making trucks designed for people whom need trucks. They are designing them for the grocerygetters/soccer moms. I'm a contractor/outdoors man. I use a truck as a truck.
