I’ve seen a lot of battery talk recently and I am also in the market, so I thought I’d jump on the band wagon. When I got my truck two years ago I installed an Interstate MTP-35(?) what for the CCA’s and all, as well as the decent success that I’ve had with Interstate batteries. However the Interstate doesn’t seem to like the vibration and bouncing on rocks and washboard’s. As I began to research Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries, I learned that Optima’s quality has taken a nose dive, Odyssey’s are a decent option, and Northstar’s have an almost cult following. When using Northstar’s battery finder tool the two options that show up are NSB-AGM 24F and NSB-AGM 35. Long story short the 24F is a slightly bigger battery with a significantly higher amount of “angry pixies” and a heaps more chooch factor. So my question is has anyone strapped a 24F battery under their bonnet, in a first gen with any success? Further more, did you have to make any mods or adjustments?

    The 35 measures: 8.54” height, 6.76” width, 9.45” length
    The 24F measures: 8.75” height, 6.77” width, 10.87” length
(Note: A 35 is the standard size for a first gen) A69F5143-7CD0-4991-8392-3A88593B3778.png
Further more, try as I might I can’t seem to close the hood when I climb into the engine compartment to take measurements.

The length and the width of these match it appears the 24F is about 15/16” taller. How well does the length work in your truck?

Its fine it doesnt move, mine is the same specs except height. I had to buy the adapter to raise my battery. The battery is a powerhouse. Mine does hang alittle more into the engine compartment than stock a battery as will that one but the bottom will taper to fit perfectly.

Looks like the same warranty as Odyssey. Look it up Northstar is the break away company from Odyssey they are also exide. Odyssey made that battery tech w/virgin lead plates first though, not that it matters because Northstar has a cult following just like Odyssey.

I have read that you can fit a 27F in there. It is over 12" wide though, so I'm sure it would be hanging off the tray. The 2nd gens use this size.

if you do pick up one of these batteries, make sure they give you a fresh one. They have date sticker(seen in the pic). You would want it within a couple of months of purchase. I learned the hard way. I have 3 cars and they all run AGM Bosch / Exide battery. But the last battery I bought for a civic, I didn't check the date. It was sitting on the shelf for almost 2 years before I bought it. I ended returning the battery as it died in less than a month. It really sucked too, because I thought I had an electrical gremlin. Anyway, when I went to exchange they couldn't believe the battery was that old but receipt said otherwise. No question's asked for the exchange no fuss, sucked I had to pay 1.99 disposal fee.

It looks like you had to modify the positive cable connection to reach the post on the battery.

Mine was modified before because it had the wrong post config. It wouldn't be that hard to do if it didn't fit. I'm certain it would fit regardless.

I run that exact battery, two of them in fact. It fits like it was meant to be there with no modifcationof anything, The stock wiring fits perfect.

This is not correct. Odyssey is part of the EnerSys group which does not own Northstar.

When I was researching AGM batteries, I came across info about how Northstar was started by a group of former Odyssey engineers. Except for color, the two designs are almost identical tho.

    Yes, I've drank the Kool-aid...

I know Northstar isnt owned by Odyssey, and I said that, and I quote (Northstar is an offshoot company from Odyssey), the tech is exactly the same. Some engineers left Odyssey and are now part of exide, hence only the small differences in the two brands. Odyssey is Enersys, Northstar is Exide. I would appreciate if you read what I wrote, instead of just poking me. Theres more than enough info on this subject out there on the web. There are people here to learn and I'm spreading the truth not lies. I'm just informing someone that those dimensions fit, as I own three Odyssey batteries all new, and have had four Die Hard platinums, with two still in commission. I'm an expert with 12 volt systems and troubleshooting electrical problems, Im not just a hobbyist by buying 300+ dollar batteries three at a time. Heck my custom billet Denso hairpin altenator thats 350+amps at idle is 1000.00 dollhairs to the public. Thing is, there is alot of misinformation out there especially when talking to (Joe min wage employee) about this at an auto parts store, that guy can only afford the cheaper stuff and an expert wouldnt work for min wage. When I said the Northstar is made by Odyssey I meant it, because the people that made Odyssey went off and made Northstar with the same design and formula anyways. The differences are too small not to notice aswell.

I want to pull the trigger on two NS24F’s for my dual battery setup and I was wondering if I’m putting one in the bed and also sleeping back there is that ok? I watched one video where a guy was warning about certain batteries being toxic and not to put them where you are sleeping but I don’t think that applies to AGM’s ?

If you're worried you can install it in a battery box with a vent to the atmosphere. The battery for my Mercedes E320 is under the backseat and includes a vent system that vents it out the rear quarter panel of the car.
