    Greetings TW,

My fan clutch took a hit in my last wreck and I got a new one to put on it. With the beat on, the fan clutch doesn't spin at all. With the belt off the water pump spins feels good. The front of the clutch is visibly crooked but the pink part spins straight.

The four bolts holding on the fan clutch are pretty seized up. I'd like to avoid having to swap out the water pump if it can be helped, so keeping the studs good is what I'm ultimately going for.

I'm a novice so i wanted to see what kind of laughs my ideas cause and come up with one that'll hopefully work.

I've used almost a whole can of PBlaster Penetrator over the last 24 hours. I have managed to get one nut off today but I pretty well rounded off one bolt too. The other two are getting worked as well....

Whats everyones thoughts on using heat? Should I put some flame of it? Red hot or not? Never had to use flames before....Clean off the PBLaster before?

I could possible saw the pink part off and get an extractor on the bolt. I have one that might work but I can't do that with the front piece attached. If I could get that off by cutting it ....I'd try to avoid the debris getting everywhere by using card board and masking tape to shield the engine. What kinda saw and blade would you use?

Could I just hammer or mallet the front part off the pink part? Probably not without damaging the water pump or threads is what I figure but worth asking.

Thanks for the advice, Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone!

You definitely have to use the the other side of the wrench. That would have prevented them rounding, also you can connect two wrenches together for extra torque. I think heat might be your last chance. Water pump is cheap if you buy the aisin one.

Perfect place to use a Induction heater to heat the nut up red hot without heating the surrounding metal.

A small torch works wonders especially when combined with the penetrant... it will smoke but should be ok. Just do one at a time. The nuts look a little ragged and might require vice grips or a nut extractor but I have faith the heat will help. Make sure you're using the box end of the wrench.

I imagine you had a box wrench that may have been too large to fit. At this stage heat is gonna help. It usually feels like it won't work and then 'tink' it works like magic. A propane torch should be fine.

Awesome, I got all 4 off! My dad came thru with these little Titan bolt extractors....They fit on the nut and make it a size larger with teeth that grip the nut better..... that with 24 hours of PBlaster and the sun shining on it all four came off. Thanks everyone!

I have a set of extractors, I learned REALLY quick to never loan them out without taking them back home because you will NEVER see them again.

Well, I'm gotta order a new set of nuts from Toyota.

Is there any chance I could get the same ones Home Depot? I noticed they got little displays that you can screw the nut onto and get the thread size. Is this viable option for my truck.

So far I've been able to salvage the bolts and nuts I've needed but I'm sure there will be some more I need. Not everything on my truck was stock due it being a salvage title in the first place.....

Pretty sure they're M10x1.25... Home Depot or Lowes is probably a stretch for that size at all, let alone getting flanged nuts.

If you have an Ace (or other... there's not many True Value in my area) with a good fastener drawer selection, they should have flanged nuts. Or I can tell you that Napa definitely has a Rockford part # for them.

You'll be able to find them at a hardware store.
