I wanted to try to figure out how the AQT compares to the quals they do in the military. I shot a 230 my first try and shot a 203 and a 209 the next day with a loose scope in heavy wind/rain. They kind of pushed us to shoot them fast so they get as many in as they could and I wasn’t paying attention to my gear.

The first time I qualified, we had pop up targets at 25-300m range. I think it was a standing supported position in a foxhole. Iron sites only on a M16. The second time was a paper target, in the prone supported position with a SOPMODII M4. I almost missed my 2-300m targets because I forgot I didn't need to aim higher to account for the bullet drop on a paper target. This was also like 12-13 years ago (fuck im old).

My mil qual was all popups at known distance. Appleseed is typically 25m using the 'alternate C' targets so windage/elevation aren't used (for basic appleseed, they also have occasional known distance courses of fire).

Is a popup a target that literally pops up?

Lol yeah. I remember those lil dudes in basic. "No brass, no ammo drill sergeant!"

In SF group we all just threw our rucks down at the range and had a go at it. Team sergeant just walked right up to the target while people were still shooting and swapped out his target. Blew my mind on how they did things there compared to "big army" lol.

Them freaking things were always shot out. Half the time we had to shoot the dirt infront of it to get something to contact. If you shot it, the bullet would usually find a hole and the hit wouldn't count.

On a different note. Associated Buyers in Roseburg has Wolf Performance 7.62x39 for $350/1k.

I just remember you just to aim pretty high to account for the drop with that guy. Over the head. At YTC (Yakima Training Center), we managed to knock em down at 800 with a spotter for fun. I couldn't even see where the bullet hit.

Not inexpensive but super-sey & fun. I told my local Pakistani arms dealer that money was no object after seeing one in another caliber in Montana. Japanese Winchester .357 take-down. Ironically imported by Browning
