Noted thanks for the heads up! I'll look into it. I've been itching for some desert time.

Is Tahuya what they call "The loop?" I hear it's fairly easy riding. I'm newer to wheeling and my truck is fairly stock. Would this be a good start?

Moses Lake ORV park. It's very NW...of Florida

I did Tahuya a couple years ago when Ben hydro locked and Will blew up his rear end. I was stock with step rails, no sliders. If you have step rails, or nerf bars or whatever you want to call them, take them off first and you will be okay. I was even on Dunlop AT20 tires at the time too.

First time offroading in Naches in 2012:
buddy of mine outfitted his FJ with ARB bumpers F/R and OME F/R and sliders; First thing used was the sliders on a bridge on NF-70 that had large boulders to block semis from crossing it. FJ is wide so it scrapped on both sides.

sliders are a great first mod if considering offroad. in my experience, (granted its in TN/KY/GA, 5 yrs) tires themselves make a HUGE make or break difference. Never been out west so idk the terrain but a good set of offroad tires (or at a minimum, aggressive A/T) will open a lot of opportunity. The only downside to tires is they wont protect the body of the vehicle haha so sliders and tires are a good combo together in the beginning. After that you can ride quite a bit of fun stuff, especially if your confidence in your own driving isnt there yet (cuz the truck will far exceed your comfort level 90% of the time...unless your just wreckless and stupid about it)

also regardless of the difficulty, bring the truck anywhere, ride what you're comfortable with then hop in someones empty seat when you don't wonna drive yours anymore. that way ppl move on to more technical stuff but everyone is along for the ride

Noted, im all in for the ride come the new year. I'll be watching the thread. I put on 265-75 Duratracs and a compressor recently.

Really considering 5100s and AAL but with the suggestions, i'all look into bolt on sliders.

Dang was looking forward to meeting everyone I can!
I sleep in the bed of the truck. It would be sweet to have people get together for an evening. No homo.
There's plenty of forest around there to camp at.

I would def consider sliders before lift. since you already have some tires, I would swap that idea with an IFS skid then. prelfrybuilt makes a solid one. With sliders and an IFS Skid, THEN i would look into suspension, and keep in mind if you are looking at a plate bumper with possible winch in the future, that will dictate what size springs you need so your not raking with the front end super low. I am fine with running 600or620# springs bc I have a tube front bumper and no winch. the heaver the bumper/winch combo, the higher weight rated springs you want so the ride isnt sucky.

There is also debate about bolt on vs weld on sliders...Ive gone with weld on personally. I feel its stronger than bolts. Ive landed on the slider solely after coming off a rock and the slider bent slightly on the outside, but the leg that was welded (with gussets) to the frame stayed straight. not saying bolted on wouldnt have held, i am just a little more doubtful. maybe others can put their 2 cents in if they have bolt ons????

5100s are pretty solid for an initial, upgraded susp. I ran those and AAL w/ 3* shim in the rear for about 4 years. I blew out 2 rear shocks but at 80/piece it wasnt too bad. never replaced my fronts until I switched and got the Fox. Im a strong supporter of of the 5100's for beginning O/R. good quality ride on and off road.

Weld vs bolt. My $0.02 worth.
First, I have Allpro,Apex bolt ins, and love them. As several on here can attest, I use them pretty hard.
    Having said that,
I would do weld on with gussets, and box the back of the frame.
The better bolt ons are super strong. Even stronger than weld ons for some. Plus the full frames are like doubling your frame.
    However
I did bolt ons thinking that I would take them off every year or so to touch up my frame, but it's a total pain and time suck. Then I realized that with weld ons, you don't have to take them off because frame is already exposed. So for that reason, I say go weld on.

I may or may not know of a GB going on right now...

But yes bolt ons will always be weaker than weld on sliders.
